I. What is in our heart will come out of our mouth. We control what we think.

• Proverbs 23, 7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. Matthew 15, 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Luke 6, 25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. Isaiah 26, 3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. 2 Corinthians 10, 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

II. Philippians 4:8 motivates us for service to God. [Philippians 4, 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things].

• True: We trust the Word of God.

• Honest: honorable.

• Just: Right.

• Pure: wholesome.

• Lovely: pleasing.

• Good report: admirable.

• Virtue: excellence.

III. To obey, we need to know what the Word of God says.

• Micah 6, 8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

• Psalm 101, 3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

• Ephesians 4, 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

• Romans 12, 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

IV. Thankfulness and Prayer for the Philippian Church:

• Philippians 1, 3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, 5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

• 2 Peter 1, 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge.

V. Set our minds on Philippians 4:9. [Philippians 4, 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you].

• Learned.

• Received.

• Heard.

• Seen in me.

• Do.

• Joshua 1, 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
