Php 1:12  But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things /which happened/ unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

Php 1:13  So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the *palace*, and in all other /places;/

by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

Php 1:15  Some indeed preach Christ even of* envy* and *strife*; and some also of good will:

We see Billy Graham and think “I can’t do that” we can’t it will take 1,000 of us to fill his shoes how about if we start with 100 today he has been imprisoned by age how about it?

Successful suffering breeds confidence

How do we defeat envy and strife?

How many times are they mentioned in NT?

*Jas 3:16*  For where envying and strife /is,/ there /is/ confusion and every evil work.

#. focus on what we have instead of what we don’t

#. get the attention onto our message and off of our lives.

#. gently remind others of our goal

#. god can use us dead or alive

#. remind them of love

Php 1:16  The one preach Christ of *contention*, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

Php 1:17  But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

Php 1:18  What then?

notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

Php 1:19  For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

Php 1:20  According to my earnest expectation and /my/ hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but /that/ with all boldness, as always, /so/ now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether /it be/ by life, or by death.

Php 1:21  For to me to live /is/ Christ, and to die /is/ gain.

God can use me alive or dead what does that do to my ego?

A walk close to Jesus leaves no room for shame!!!!!

Heb 10:22  Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

I have a job to do

 

Php 1:22  But if I live in the flesh, this /is/ the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.

*Php 1:23*  For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

Php 1:24  Nevertheless to abide in the flesh /is/ more needful for you.

Php 1:26  That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

*Php 1:28**  And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.

Php 1:29  For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

Php 1:30  Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear /to be/ in me.

*13* so that my imprisonment in /the cause of/ Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else,*14* and that most of the brethren , trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment , have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear.*15*

Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will;*16* the latter /do it/ out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;*17* the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment .*18*

What then?

Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will rejoice,*19* for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,*20* according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but /that/ with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

*To Live Is Christ*

*21* For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.*22*

But if /I am/ to live /on/ in the flesh, this /will mean/ fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.*23*

But I am hard-pressed from both /directions,/ having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for /that/ is very much better;*24* yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.*25*

Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,*26* so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.*27*

Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;*28* in no way alarmed by /your/ opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that /too,/ from God

*12* Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.

*13* As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.

*14* Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.

*15* It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.

*16* The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.

*17* The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.

*18* But what does it matter?

The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached.

And because of this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, *19* for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.

*20* I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

*21* For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

*22* If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me.

Yet what shall I choose?

I do not know!

*23* I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; *24* but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.

*25* Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, *26* so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.

*27* Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.

Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel *28* without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you.

This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved--and that by God.

*29* For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him,
