*New Design and New Direction*
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I/ am/ the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfecta. 2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
4 As for me, behold, my covenant/ is/ with thee, and thou shalt be a father of manyb nations.
5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abrahamc; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

*As we face some challenging times ahead, it is apparent that America has decided that we need to go in a different direction.
Things like unemployment, education, moral decay, lack of accountability, housing breakdowns, and bank meltdowns have caused a change of direction.
The reason for the change is caused by a reaction by our deterioration of results that we suggest if we want success, we had better do something different.
*
* *
*Please allow me to suggest that all change is not caused by a lack of deteriorating result, some changes are caused by divine revelation.
In the text, we see a man by the name of Abram receives a Divine call by God, and how he responds to the call, will determine his outcome.
The question today is how have we responded to God’s call?
Have we pressed the ignore button, have we looked at the caller id and have decided not to answer.
Yes, God is calling us to do a work, and to be a witness for him in this troubling world.*

In the text, Abram has to overcome some difficult odds in order have a new design, and go in a new direction.
One Abram has to overcome his Saga.
This is his own personal history story.
He is from a land where idol worship is the in thing.
His father is an idolater, but yet God has called him( Abram) to come from where he is.
Maybe there is someone here today who when you examine the history, it seemingly would seem impossible to overcome to hear the voice of God.
Abram was able to overcome the saga of idol worship.
Secondly he had to overcome a system.
He is married to Sarai.
Her name means contentious, which means she is always trying to stir up trouble.
His name means exalted Father.
How does an exalted Father connect with a contentious person.
Some of us are connected to people, that can potentially keep us from progressing or moving forward.
While in most cases we will have to disconnect to that person in order to move forward, in this case, God changes the both of them.
Abram is able to overcome the system

Thirdly,  Abram has to overcome God’s silence.
God is silent for thirteen years.
God uses the silence in order to prepare and mature Abram and Sarai for the next level.
In our own personal lives, there may be a silence, and he silence doesn’t necessarily mean a denial, but could mean it is just a delay.
In order for us to overcome the odds for Gods new design and new direction in our lives.
One we must understand that *God is intentional.*.

(Niphal).
/1b1/ to appear, present oneself.
/1b2/ to be seen.
/1b3/ to be visible.[2]
The text says that he appears.
( imperfect tense) God kept on showing up and he finally got it.
O’Charleys and I ordered two Arnold Palmers one with ice and one without, two California chicken salads, one with chipotle chicken one with the regular, one with blue cheese crumbles one with out, and both with onions, and French and ranch on the side.
He has to come back and he has to repeat the order again.
He wants to make sure that he has got it.
It took thirteen years, but he finally got it.
God is still working on some of us now, but I’m glad he will keep showing up until we get it.

Secondly *God is inspirational*.
God shows himself as El Shaddai.
One who is all powerful.
In Scripture*,* the term Almighty (used about 58 times) is applied only to God.
Shaddai speaks of God Almighty; the mighty One of resource or sufficiency; the pourer forth of blessings (temporal and spiritual); the breasted One; the mighty One of resource of sufficiency; root = shad = a breast; Genesis 49:25 /the blessings of the breasts/ presents God as the One who nourishes, supplies, and satisfies.
God, all bountiful; God all sufficient.

How has God shown himself in your life.
Has he shown up in a way of deliverance of someone in the hospital, in an accident.
*How has God shown himself to you.
God shows Revelation, and revelation requires responsibility, and we can’t have responsibility without relationship.*
There are many of us who want miracles with no modeling.
If there is no relationship, then it doesn’t mean anything, and we take God for granted.
*( child that gets what they want*)

Lastly *God gives instructions*:

This takes place through Jesus Christ, a descendant of Abram.
C.     *The pilgrimage* (12:4–5): Abram travels from Ur to Haran and from Haran to Canaan.
