The Prayer

1 Chronicles 4:9–10 NKJV
9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
Book of genealogy after 600 names here we pause to hear about Jabez and his prayer.
EXAMPLE Manuel
> First Pray mentality
Praying isn't for me??? maybe we are praying the same word about the same situation and it has become mundane ???
Is it possible we are praying incorrectly and our prayers are one sided.we haven’t recieved the answer but is it because we are not listening
Prayer isn’t about God moving toward us, it is us moving toward God!
Jabez prayed about his promise and it changed his name...
He cries out not about His pain but his promise
Jabez was more honorable then all his brothers why???
He prayed, he served his maker, he lived to do good among men
this caused him to receive honor from the lord.
Jabez- His mother named him Pain
in Hebrew culture the meaning of a name is of strong importance.
This labeled Jabez - The idea of pain was heavy on Jabez, especially growing up.
we may find ourselves living in the script based on the name that has labeled us… God wants to change that!
@ My Name… Bitter, Little, rebellion, drop of the sea, little significance, myrrh ( bitter herb)
Child of light, High fortress, shielded, A costly spice brought as a gift to Jesus.
Meaning, shift in thinking, the fragrance that filled a room...

Bless Me Indeed

1. there are many who are blessed, but they are-not all blessed indeed.
you can have something that is in one sense a blessing but because of dissatisfaction in their life, they are not blessed indeed.
Indeed-!!!!!!!!
2.Sometimes Blessings turn out to be curses to us in that we make an idol out of the blessing.
many things that are outwardly curses end up being blessings indeed to us.
3. why does he bless us… so that we can in turn be a blessing to others
Genesis 12:2 (NIV)
2 “ I will bless you......and you will be a blessing to others.
God wants to give to you but he also wants to give through you!
is it possible that your unhappy because it is all about you?
happiness does not come without problems but it comes with a purpose.
it means to be… filled, strengthened, full, adored, cause to prosper, celebrate
Bring everything into order that you have designated for my life lord.

Pray the Promise not the Pain

Enlarge My Territory

1.The conquest was taking the land of Canaan.
enlarge my territory... in other word… drive out these wicked you have commanded to root out!
I Except the responsibility of the blessing
His desire for more territory was not only to displace the wicked, but also advance the cause of godliness to multiply.
2.Give the capability to take the land, the land you have promised.
3. There is a command to enlarge our territory....influence, authority.... growth!
sometimes we become paralyzed in a position due to fear of exposure, failure, disappointment
it is the desire of God to do this
Isaiah 54:1–5 NIV
1 “Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the Lord. 2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. 3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities. 4 “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. 5 For your Maker is your husband— the Lord Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.
Psalm 2:8 (NIV)
8 I will make the nations your inheritance,
Nations- people, Culture, kingdom, power,
to refuse an inheritance is to dis-claim … disclaim refuse to acknowledge… claim..... ask, application
Psalm 18:35 (NLT)
35 You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great.
to make me great... to grow in my relationship with christ as well as increase in a capability to have power over the things that once ruled over me.

enlarge my territory- to open my life wide, to be expanded in the areas I feel limited in or any place I feel walled in, any barriers removed!

Your Hand Would Be With Me

Jabez prayed for presence
The Hand of the Lord biblically explains God’s power and presence in the lives of His people
Acts 11:21 NIV
21 The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.
His(hand) presence draws the hearts of the people.
Exodus 33:15–17 (NIV)
15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.
16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”
His ( hand) presence marks us, separates us as his own
Jabez prayed to see the hand of God with Him now!
God my your hand be with us now!

Keep Me From Evil, That I My Not Cause Pain

Jabez did not want to cause himself pain or others
He used this expression due to his name
My I not have the grief which my name implies and which my sin deserves
2 Timothy 4:18 (ESV)
18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Jabez knew there was evil in the world, he had lived through so much pain in his life.
He knew that he needed God to keep him from evil.
He knew that the Hand of God blessing us can transform the evil and pain of life!
God is able to bring blessing through and instead of pain.

God Granted His Request

The Verse is a measure of effective prayer, it was answered …remember No and wait are answers
when we are close to the heart of God and pray things that are important to Him and His kingdom we can expect them to be granted.
Romans 8:35–37 NIV
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
