Introduction

Galatians 5:22–25 KJV 1900
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Body

Recap:
The fruit of the Spirit are a manifestation of the character of God in our lives
We cannot attain unto them. They are produced by the Holy Ghost resident in us.
They can only manifest in us as we are submitted to Christ and are “attached to the True Vine”.
This differs from the gifts of the spirit in that:
The gifts are external and immediate manifestations of the Holy Ghost
The fruit are an internal manifestations of the Holy Ghost and they take time to develop in the Christian’s life
This can only happen if we are dead to our old nature and alive to Christ
Under grace, we are prohibited from both legalism AND License.
Joy - “Delight, rejoice greatly, gladness”
Romans 14:17 KJV 1900
17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Why do we experience joy as children of God?
Our great debt of sin has been completely wiped out. forgiven. discharged.
We have been made the temple of God
We have been placed into His body as He saw fit
He provides for us everything we will ever need
He desires to build a growing, vibrant relationship with us
He leads us into His perfect plan for our lives
Whatever we may face down here is nothing compared to the glory we stand to inherit.
God’s Spirit in us produces joy in us
Peace - “Peace, harmony, freedom from worry”.
Romans 14:17 KJV 1900
17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Why do we experience peace as children of God?
Because God loves us and wants the very best for us at all times.
Because God has all power and all authority
Because God has infinite resources at His disposal
Because it’s God who orders our steps and directs our paths
Because if we submit ourselves to God and obey Him, the results are entirely up to Him
God’s Spirit in us causes us to feel at peace in any situation or circumstance

Conclusion

As Christians we can, we must experience both joy and peace through Jesus Christ.
