1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Hallowed be Thy name … The PRAISE of God

Thy will be done … The PLAN of God
Give us bread … The PROVISION of God
Forgive us our debts … The PARDON of God
Lead us not into temptation … The POWER of God
Deliver us from the evil one … The PROTECTION of God

You ask God to glorify Himself through supplying your needs.

Bread is a symbol word for all of your needs. Spiritual and physical.
When you ask for bread your asking God to intervene and provide the needs of your life.
Bread is sold in various brands, sizes and prices. We can buy homemade bread, day-old bread and bread from the freezer ready to cook in our ovens.

You need spiritual bread, “The Word.” to face the next parts of this prayer.
8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches— Feed me with the food allotted to me;
9 Lest I be full and deny You, And say, “Who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God.
We want food not alloted to us and it causes problems. We can’t handle it!. Lottery winners. Most fail.
1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?
2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
You desire and you will kill, destroy anyone that gets in your way. Covetous people are contentious people because they live jealous fomo lives. Never satisfied or at peace. Envious lives that perpetuate stressful relationships with everyone. You’re asking God to partner with you on your lustful, coveting endeavors and He won’t do that.
Spend is the same verb used to describe the wasteful spending of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:14. Destructive desires persist, even if we pray, because our prayers may be self-centered and self-indulgent.

You ask God to forgive you from your obligations.

This verse is concerned with the sins that block your fellowship with God.
“Forgive us our debts” is not initial forgiveness, which is the sinner coming to God for salvation. Many mistakenly think this prayer is asking God to make them Christians. Not so! When you pray “Forgive us our debts,” you already are a Christian who calls God “our Father.” You already are a child of the King … you are in the Kingdom.
1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
To sin means - miss the mark.
Debt- that which is owed, debt, Obligation
Obligation -the condition of being morally or legally bound to do something.
If you incur debt your obligated to pay it. You damage something your obligated to pay it. You sin your obligated to pay the consequences.
When we sin we are obligated to that sin. When we continually sin we tend to it. We are obligated to it, we are bound to it.

The Lord’s Prayer says, “Forgive us our debts” (i.e., our obligations), because we need to be forgiven not only for our sins, but also their consequences—the obligations we have incurred.
25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison.
26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
Debtors prison - Friends story that they left Dubai because of debt.
I was bound and tended to that lie for 15 years.

God is asking you to forgive others obligations to you.

15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
This is not and option. I don’t believe it’s and eternal issue but it will keep you bound to that person.
13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

So if God’s leading you He will always lead you from temptation.

You are asking God to never let me return to my previous life.

14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.
You know your own lust and your asking God to lead you away from it. Create a Godly appetite in your life.
24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—
13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Tempted people are harassed people and harassed people are miserable people.

Week after week, a man stood up to pray at his church’s prayer meeting. Typically, he closed his prayer with the phrase,
“Clean all the cobwebs out of my life.”
After listening to this man’s continual request, the night came when a friend blurted out in prayer,
“Lord, kill the spider instead!”
9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

On a tour of Europe, international chess master Paul Morphy and a friend entered an art gallery and was drawn to a painting depicting two men playing chess. The name of the painting was “The Chess Players” by Morits Retzch.
In the painting, a man is playing chess with the devil, the stake being the young man’s soul. The artist had most graphically depicted the point in the game where it was apparently the young man’s move, and he seemed just to realize the fact that he had lost the game, the agony of despair being shown in every line of his features and attitude, while the devil from the opposite side of the table gloated over him with fiendish delight. The position of the game appeared utterly hopeless for the young man. His soul was lost.
Even though his friend got bored and moved on, Mr. Morphy stayed behind, eyes fixed on the chess board. Before long, he came hurriedly to his friend and exclaimed, “It’s not over! The young man has one more move! I could win the match for him!” They returned to the painting and Mr. Morphy showed exactly how the young man could not only escape the situation, but win the match.
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
when you decide to let God protect you from the evil one, you bring God into your experience. God is wiser than you, and He knows how to defend you. God is more powerful than you, and He has the power to defend you. The psalmist had this confidence:
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
