We are not really fasting, but we know we need to get some toxins out of our lives.
Detox - Removal of toxic substances from a living organism

We need to removes some toxins from our lives… spirit, soul and body.
In January we do this in the fast. I am pretty addicted to sugar and during the fast, I begin looking at the paint on the wall. But after a week, I feel better.
Week 1 Spirit Detox

Week 3 - Body Detox
14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 17 Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. 18 And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 1 Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
Today we are going to talk about body toxins… the same week we had some wonderful birthday cake.
God created Krispy Kreme donuts but the devil makes me want to eat them all.
Went to the Doctor this week… my weight was perfect for a 6.5 man… I’m not that height.

21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
You may not think about your body causing death, but when we detox from Body toxins… we become free.

How may of you in this room would say that you are an addict? all of us are...
Addiction - anything that I don’t want to do but I keep doing

All of us face addictions or strong holds of some kind on our lives.
Do you arrange your schedule around it? Do you try to keep it a secret? Does it isolate you? do the people around you say that you have a problem with it? If you wanted to stop it over the next 6 days, could you stop it?
God wants to get involved in your battle for you.
12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

Today, people have not been raised with cultural moral absolutes.
Reagan - Just say no! This says that we will face temptations and when we do, we have some convictions that take over and say no to sin.
Today’s culture says follow your feelings… Debauchery says you can trust your feelings… You can not trust your feelings.
Some of the things we put into our bodies help cause this.
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
Substances like alcohol and drugs dull your inhibitions and people will do things they never would have done.
Boudreaux and Thibidoux… drunk and went right to the railroad track B this is the toughest stairwell I ever walked on. T said it’s the low handrail is what’s giving me the trouble.

Most people today don’t know what sexual immorality is.
Pornea - all sex outside marriage as defined by God… not government. man - woman, cohabiting, homsexual sex… all sex outside marriage.
All sex outside marriage destroys us.
People think that what they look at won’t hurt them. Porn. Let’s look at what Paul said.
The Corinthians would go to the temple and they had prostitutes...
15 Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never! 16 And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, “The two are united into one.” 17 But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. 18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.
Unite - deeply fused at a spiritual level.
Culture wants you to think that it’s recreational. It’s not. Unite means that you leave something of yours with them… there a soul bond.
I have seen this in young people that could not get that soul tie broken with s jerk of a guy…
If you think this is just physical, talk to someone who has been raped or abused.
Soul ties are happening for some on their phones… in all sorts of ways.

How do we detox from these things?
We have to learn how to control our bodies.
4 Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor—5 not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways.
We have to learn how to live holy…
Here are three things that will help.
Get away from it
Get away from it
What is it? might be someone at work… school… You may need to change jobs. The grass is not greener on the other side… if it is, the water bill is real high.
Get away from relationships that are physical
18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
You don’t manage sin, you run from it. I am not trying to be hard, I am trying to save your life.
Some of you are thinking… that’s tough, but as a Christian, I don’t belong to myself. Jesus paid the price for my sin and I belong to him. He bought me. I now make decisions based on what Jesus wants…
Salvation is when you give control of your life over to God

Jesus died so I would not have to pay the price. I belong to him. So I ask him what to do next.

Everything begins in your mind.
Kids say they can play that video game where they kill people … it does. We wonder why we have lost all civility in our culture. If you don’t think this stuff impacts you, why do the advertisers pay millions of dollars for the adds.
Brownie story…
We let stuff into our bodies and we wonder why things are going the way they are going.
22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!
Where are you losing the battle of your mind?
5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.
We have to change our thinking.
Take the next 6 days and detox your eyes.
This next one is important. Christianity is not a list of don’t do this or that… god gives us a better alternative. Let me say it like this…

Don’t just slap your hand...
I don’t commit adultery against Kathy is not because of a verse. I don’t commit adultery against Kathy because I am in love with Kathy.
I believe that once you find something better than sin, sin will stop being a problem.
So here is the solution…
Go all in with God

All the way. Some of you have a toe in… it’s 1 out of 7 for you. Nope.. every day needs to be all in. You need to find your purpose in the Lord.
One reason I am motivated not to sin is you… I want to be an example for you. When you have that kind of purpose in your life, sin loses out.

We want to help you get something bigger in your life than the temptation…
The happiest people int he world are not the ones with self control, its people with something bigger and better than sin, so thy go all in.
25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
