How do we know who is a believer and an unbeliever if everyone claims they are a Christian in the United States. How do we know the difference? Murders claim they are christians, homosexuals claim they are christians. Everyone in the United states slaps a christian title on themselves. Believers are called to be set apart from culture. Not being conformed by culture but focused on Jesus Christ. SHARING THE GOSPEL IS HOW WE KNOW WE ARE believers Acting in the fruit of the spirit. Becoming like Christ allows us to see others like Christ sees them? 1 Cor. 13 2. When people get hurt, they become defensive.

There is a void in every soul of a person that wants more: This void causes us to pursue things to try and fill it. But the Void always want more.

WANTING THE NEW VIDEO GAME OR GAME SYSTEM. WANTING to be on a TEAM.

WANTING TO SCORE THE POINT TO WIN

WANTING THE NICEST or most Expensive CAR.

IF I JUST HAD A BF OR GF

ALWAYS TRYING TO CHASE THE NEXT THING THAT WILL SATISFY ME.

I AM THIRSTY!

THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING MORE FOR ME OUT THERE.

John 4:1-30

VERSE 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

When the Jews were released out of exile some Jews stayed behind in the northern territory.

JEWS AND ASSRYIANS = SAMERITAINS

BLOODLINE OF THE JEWS - The MESSIAH

JEWS thought of Samaritans as Unclean

IN THEIR CULTURE THERE WAS SO MUCH TENSION.

Samaritans would dig up bones and put them into the temple.

A Group of SAMARITANS were FORCED to Worship on a Mountain NOT IN THE TEMPLE.

WOMAN - Asking me for a drink? I am the one thirsty. I walked all this way and you have been sitting here.

We can disqualify ourselves from talking to God if we let the world label who we are.

Pastor once said, sometimes we can’t hear Gods voice because we are to busy listening to another voice that comes from the world.

The Devil can use the World to speak to you and disqualify what God has spoken to you. (Genesis 3) During the Fall the Devil said did God really say?

PEOPLE DON’T LIKE YOU. YOU LOOK STUPID. YOUR NOT GOOD ENOUGH LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. NO ONE LOVES YOU.

Sometimes we feel this way with God. God you can’t talk to me. I am filthy and you are holy. Why are you concerned with me?

- Do you know what I have done?

VERSE 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

Do you know the gift of God? - The gift that God has offered you? SALVATION:

Do you know who I am? JESUS THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.

- IF YOU DID KNOW YOU WOULD HAVE ASKED ME FOR A DRINK.

LIVING WATER. - SOMETHING YOU HAVE BEEN THIRSTY FOR, FOR YOUR ENTIRE LIFE.

Something you have been searching for.

Something you want to Live for.

Something you have been dying to find.

VERSE 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

You can keep drinking from this well but you will be thirsty again.

Relating to the Natural Part of HUMANITY: Hungry & Thirst I need a source outside of my self to satisfy me. YOU WILL ALWAYS WANT MORE

YOU CAN KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING BUT YOU WILL BE THIRSTY AGAIN. -------IT WILL NEVER SATISFY YOU.

a. THE THINGS YOUR STRIVING FOR :WANTING ACCEPTANCE, LOVE, and SECURITY

TRYING TO MAKE FRIENDS BUT THEY STAB YOU IN THE BACK. THIRSTY FOR ACCEPTANCE,

AS WE TRY TO FILL THIS VOID WITH ALL THESE THINGS THE VOID GETS BIGGER

a.14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the THE WATER I GIVE THEM WILL BECOME IN THEM A SPRING OF WATER WELLING UP TO ETERNAL LIFE.

SALVATION.

YOU CAN REJECT IT AND BE THIRSTY

OR YOU CAN RECEIVE IT: GOD ACCEPTS YOU! GOD LOVES YOU! GOD BRING SECURITY!

THIS WOMAN WANTED ACCEPTANCE, WANTED LOVE, WANTED SECURITY. BUT EVERY MAN FAILED HER!

AND YOU DON’T NEED TO DO IT! YOU JUST RECEIVE!

THIS IS ETERNAL LIFE

BECOME IN THEM - THE SAME SPIRIT THAT RAISED CHRIST FROM THE DEAD NOW LIVES IN YOU. THIS IS THE RELATIONSHIP GOD WANTS WITH YOU.

A SPRING OF WATER - THAT KEEPS FLOWING. --- YOU ARE FORGIVEN - YOU ARE LOVE - YOU ARE CALLED.

MY VOICE WILL ALWAYS TELL YOU

MY COUSIN AND THE RIVER

WELLING UP — IT KEEPS RISING AND FILLING YOU. YOU KNOW THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD. BUILD YOU ALL WAY TO ETERNAL LIFE.

VERSE 15 - The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

The woman wants this living water! She is thirsty! She has been searching for this her whole life:

SHE WASN’T GETTING IT: SHE THINKS THIS IS SOMETHING LITERAL:

JESUS WASN’T SPEAK LITERAL, HE WAS SPEAKING ETERNAL

VERSE 16 - 19 - 16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

17 “I have no husband,” she replied.

Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”

19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

- JESUS WANTED HER TO KNOW THAT HE IS THE MESSIAH.

1. ACCEPTANCE - Women has been divorced 5 times. --- She is now with a man NOT married.

HOW MANY TIMES SHE TRIED TO BE ACCEPTED but WAS REJECTED.

FRIEND YOU TRIED TO BE NICE TO BUT THEY WERE MEAN TO YOU.

a. THIS WOMAN WAS LABELED AS A DISGRACE, SHAMEFUL:

No one wanted to be seen with her. In the Middle of the day getting water.

Culture - Women would go in the morning or evening to get water to avoid the heat. Women would go together.

WIDOWS WERE CONSIDERED THE LOW OF THE LOW.

She was an Outcast, Shameful.

POSSIBLE PROSTITUE: GOING FROM RELATIONSHIP TO RELATIONSHIP

2. LOVE - SHE DID EVERYTHING SHE COULD TO BE LOVED.

GOD IS SAYING, I KNOW THE THINGS YOU HAVE DONE TO TRY AND SATISFY THE THIRST.

God Sees What You Have Tried to do to satisfy your soul.

WANTING THE NEW VIDEO GAME, THE RELATIONSHIPS, THE MATERIAL THINGS.

You always want a car. Even after you get a car you want a better car. You always want a BF or GF.

3. SECURITY - I JUST WANT SOMEONE TO LOVE ME AN ACCPET ME FOREVER. I WANT SECURITY

This Women Wanted SECURITY From Her HUSBANDS

a. THIRSTY FOR RELATIONSHIP:

JESUS WAS OFFERING HER ALL THIS THINGS:

YOU CAN’T DO THIS IN YOUR OWN STRENGTH: IT FALLS APART.

GOD ACCEPTS YOU, GOD LOVES YOU, GOD BRINGS SECURITY.

ILLUSTRATION: OF THE WASHING RAGS:

VERSE 21-24 21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Worship God is SPIRIT & TRUTH & Have a Relationship with Him.

Not at a certain place.

God is omnipresent.

Verse 28 28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him

WATER JUG - SHE ABANDONED THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE OF HER TRIP TO THE WELL BECAUSE SHE FOUND HER PURPOSE
