B. Practice them to become more like Jesus in our character and attitude.
C. Today will consider the discipline of consistent intak of the Word of God.
I. Our Attitude Toward the Word is Important
A. Not just another book - inspired Word of God
God breathed - chosen men of God were inspired to write the Bible
Given to us so that we may know the truth and apply the truth in our lives.
Often our feelings will betray us
The devil will use our circumstances against us. cause us to doubt the love of God.
A great weapon but cannot use it if we don’t know it.
Psalmist: Thy Word have I hid in my heart
You have exalted your Word above your name
II. The Word of God is Eternal
A. The voice said, “Cry out!”
And he said, “What shall I cry?”
“All flesh is grass,
And all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades,
Because the breath of the LORD blows upon it;
Surely the people are grass.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever
The New King James Version. (1982). (Is 40:6–8). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
Isaiah 40:6–8 NKJV
The voice said, “Cry out!” And he said, “What shall I cry?” “All flesh is grass, And all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”
Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall never pass away.
III. The Word of God is Infallable
A. Define infallable
1. Will not fail you
2. Is dependable
3. when rightly discerned will encourage and inspire us to live for God.
IV. Ways in Which We Take in the Word of God
A. We read it - Simply reading the Word, not studying reading to familiarize ourselves with the Word.
B. We Study It - requires that we get out a paper and pencil.
1. Journal as you study
2. Write down insights
3. Write down a plan of action
a. convicted to tithe; develop a plan to obey the Lord and support the work of the church
4. Do a word study - sanctification mean
5. Do a character study - life of Abraham
6. Study a subject - baptism, sin, salvation, etc.
C. Memorize it - commit to memory sections of scripture
D. Hear - listen to someone teach a lesson or hear a pastor preach a message
E. Meditate on it - get the Word out of your head and into your heart.
important because the devil will seek to steal the word out of your heart
out of the abundance of the heart a man speaks
what is in you will come out when you are squeezed.
good tree bears good fruit
if all we put into our hearts are the things of the world, then when we are under pressure all that will come out are the ways of the world.
