Isaiah 9:6
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor,* Mighty God,
Everlasting Father , Prince of Peace.
Introduction
I. Prophetic Past -
Rabbinic teaching indicates that writing in past tense to indicate it will happen in the future, but it is considered done. "Unto us a child is born..."
II. Throne Name of a Royal Child -
The name is an attribute to God. Rabbinic tradition indicates that this is not a divine attribute of the Child, but of the parents God.
III. Everlasting Father -
A. Luke 15: 11 - 32
i. ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’
ii. " And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming."
iv. "Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. "
v. "this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’
