we are a in our fourth week of our series Convictions: What We Believe
Do Christians have nonnegotiable beliefs, and if so, what are they?
This eight-week series looks at eight key topics in evangelical theology that all Christians agree about. Our faith will be challenged as we ask ourselves, “When it comes to my beliefs, what is important and why?”
So far we have covered two beliefs/ doctrine. Week one we look at the Holy bible and how it was a gift from God that we do not have to do anything too. A perfect gift.
Week two. We look at Trinity and how there is only one God but he shows himself in three different ways The Father, The Son, and Holy Spirit. The idea of the Trinity confronts us with a lead of faith. We have to have a little faith to believe God is who He say he is.
Last week we look God the Father. We look at how God created everything in 6 days.. On the 6 day He created man and women. He created us in his image. Genesis 1;1 you don’t read, “In the beginning God dropped something on accident, and as a result there was life.” Rather, we read, “In the beginning God created…” He set about to do something when he created, which means you have purpose and value.
Last week we look at the second part of the Trinty. God the Son and how no one can keep God laws. In fact, there has only been one person that has keep Gods laws perfectly. That person was Jesus. God sent is son down to earth has a baby to live like you and I do. So that he would face the same things we do. So that he could be the savoir of the world. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Only to be rised on the the third day. He concered death. So we could have enterinal live with God the father when we expect Christ has our savour.
This morning we will be talk about the third member of the Trinity. God the Holy Spirit.
So if you have your bible please turn to Acts 1:8 and Acts 2. If you do not have your bibles you can follow along on the screen in a few moments.
Before we dive into talking about the Holy Spirit. I have a question for you. So think for a moment.

What does the Holy Spirit do?

What do you know about the Holy Spirit? Go head take a moment a post in the comments.
You might be think nothing or that the Holy Spirit is some type of a ghost.
Or you might be think something totally different.
The Holy Spirit provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, guidance in doing what is right, and spiritual gifts to build up the church and spread the gospel.
These are just four thing but there are more. This morning we will be look at this four a little later but first.

Where did the Holy Spirit come from?

The bible full of that about the Holy Spirit. We saw a few weeks ago that Genesis talk about the Holy Spirit. Acts gives us the best place to pick up and talk about the Holy Spirt. Join me as i read.
Acts 1:7–8 CSB
7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Where did the Holy Spirit come from?

God sent the Holy Spirit after Jesus went into heaven. You see Jesus was with disciples his followers for a few year and now he was suddenly gone. They had no clue what to do. Right before he went to heaven. He told the disciples to not go anywhere and to wait for this gift that would come.
This gift would help them spread what Jesus had done to the ends of the earth. This gift was the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:1–4 CSB
1 When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying. 3 They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and rested on each one of them. 4 Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.

Where did the Holy Spirit come from?

You see the Holy Spirit came on a very big day in the life of the Jewish people The day of Pentecost. So what is Pentecost? Pentecost or Fest of Weeks celebrated fifty days after First Fruits as a harvest celebration praising God for His continued provision. This was a celebration that God had put into place back when the Jewish people left Egypt and where in the dessert. So there would have been a lot of people in the city at this time that way its important. More people got to here here the what Jesus had done.
The Holy Spirit came down in a violent rushing wind that filled the whole house. The disciples that were there saw flame tongue rest on them and they began to speak in different languages.
If this is how the Holy Spirit came first then why does he not come like this now? What do we have to do. or

When can you receive the Holy Spirit?

Peter give the answer to this just a few verse down.
Acts 2:38–39 (CSB)
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

When can you receive the Holy Spirit?

We all can. When ever you ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins. The gift of the Holy Spirit come upon you. each and every one of use has the this gift. The next question is this.

What can we do with the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is our counsellor. He provides us with comfort, and draw us closer to Jesus.
He guides us in the right direction when we want to follow and not go on our own way.
He to convict the world of sin.
He gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Which can be many different thing. Wisdom, teaching/ preaching/, Faith, Healing, different kinds of languages and to intervention them.
Galatians 5:22–23 CSB
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.

God has sent you a Helper who can guide and lead you

Now, you might be thinking, “Why is the work of the Spirit a conviction for Christians?” There are two reasons to consider. The first is theological: we want to be honest about what the Bible says. If it says these things about the Spirit, then we should assume they are important. Second, if you struggle—with a belief, in your prayer life, with a sin, in sharing your faith with someone else, or with anything else in your life of faith—you can rejoice! You can rejoice because God anticipated your weakness and has sent the Holy Spirit to help you. You can pray to God for more of his Spirit, for wisdom from the Spirit, for strength from the Spirit, for the leading of the Spirit—and trust that he will provide and answer that prayer.
