Indeed God Speaks; But Does Baptism Now Save Us?

1 Peter 3:21-22 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ—who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him!
What does God mean when He says “Baptism Now Saves You?” I think a key to understanding this phrase are the words “Corresponding To That.” So, let’s take a closer look at what the Apostle Peter said!
I. The REALITY that needs to be EMBRACED!
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust
Why would Christ die for sins of sinners like you and me?
II. The REASON that needs to be EXPRESSED!
1 Peter 3:18 . . . So That He might bring us to God
III. The RESURRECTION that needs to be EXPERIENCED!
1 Peter 3:18 . . . having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit
Christ died a death that He did not deserve to die so that we could experience a life that we did not deserve to live!
Ephesians 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us
Ephesians 2:5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us Alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)
Ephesians 2:6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus
Ephesians 2:7 So That in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus
IV. The REVELATION that needs to be EXPOSED!
1 Peter 3:19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison
1 Peter 3:20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water
V. The RESPONSE that needs to be EXPLAINED!
1 Peter 3:21 Corresponding to That—Baptism Now Saves You—Not the Removal of dirt from the flesh—But an Appeal to God for a Good Conscience—Through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ
What does “Corresponding to That” refer to?
Understanding that “corresponding to that” refers to Noah and his family being delivered from the waters of judgment through the Ark, and that Christ died to deliver us from God’s judgment of our sins, water baptism is the response of the good conscience of those who have been saved by grace through faith in the death and resurrection of Christ!
The Believer who has responded in faith to water baptism, has a good conscience and more fully comprehends this glorious truth:
1 Peter 3:22 Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him
1 Peter 4:1 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin!
1 Peter 4:2 so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the Will of God!
The Life You Now Life in the Flesh of your Humanity, do you live it for the lusts of mankind, or do you live the life you live in pursuit of the Will of God?
Water Baptism can often launch a person into their new destiny, are you willing to die to the lust of men and be raised to walk in the newness of Resurrection Life?
