We Should Love One Another

"For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another”

Outdo one another in showing honor."

"and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love."

The message is from the beginning “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
(John 13:34)
2. The wickedness in the world says that we are to love everybody equally because we are all brothers and sisters.
However, the Bible defines and therefore we are to know the difference between the families.
Jesus defined who the family of God is:
"While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.
But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”"
(Matthew 12:46-50, ESV)
"And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.”
And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”
And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!
For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”"

" Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd.

You have to define the family before you define the siblings.
Because of the fall, mankind has defaulted to being “children of the devil” from birth and until they are born of God they are not a part of His family and therefore not brothers and sisters.
The family is clear - it is evident who are and who aren’t.
"By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother."
(1 John 3:10, ESV)
4. Love & unity in the family here on earth is God’s plan for us.
This is why it is important to define the family and know because Satan uses this to keep believers running around in circles.
"So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go.
First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift."
(Matthew 5:23-24, ESV)
"that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together."
(1 Corinthians 12:25-26, ESV)

The Bible says that where we have opportunity we are to do good to all men, but especially the household of faith.
The brethren take highest priority in relationships.
"So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."
(Galatians 6:10, ESV)
6. Unity happens because of doctrine not without doctrine.
False doctrine always leads to false practice.
This is why we know the people we worship with in the local church.
7. Love for one another is the key to evangelism and discipleship.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
