!!! What God Love & What God Hates
!!! Psalm 5

!!! Introduction:
We often think about what God loves:  name some things.
But how often do we think about what God hates?
Name some of those things?
As I read Psalm 5 I couldn’t help but think that it was a lesson in contrasts.
What God loves and what God hates.
!!! I.                   The Lord Loves to have His people call out to Him vv.
1-2

1.
David cries out to God as one who is unworthy
~*Give ear~/consider~/give heed

~*That is not how you call on someone who needs to listen to you.
You may sit down a child and say, “Now listen here,” or “You will listen to me,” but that is not the same as David did before God.

~*David is crying out as one who is undeserving, and needs the Lord to listen.
Shows humility and total dependence

2.
David cries out to God regularly.
In the morning
      Psalm 55:17, 59:16, 88:13, 119:147

NT tells us to “pray without ceasing”
Shows that were are continually dependant upon Him
Hymn “I Need Thee Every Hour.”

!!! II.
The Lord hates wickedness vv.
4-7

1.
He does not take pleasure in any type of wickedness
That is because He is a holy God
People cannot understand someone that does not take pleasure in any type of wickedness
~*People have asked me many times if there were times that I felt like drinking, cursing, etc.

~*People often take great pleasure in sin.
Many movies and TV programs count on it.
Many flock to theaters, etc. and take great pleasure in sin.
~*God never takes any pleasure in sin whatsoever.
2.
Evil will not dwell with the Lord v. 4
God cannot even have sin in His presence
God is more holy that people often give Him credit for
~*How often do people think that “God will understand?”
3.
The boastful will not stand in His sight v. 5

Psalm 73 written by Asaph
v. 3 “For I /was/ envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”
v.
18 “Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.”
James 4:6 “God resists the proud”
James 4:10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

4.
You hate all workers of iniquity v. 5
This seems to fly in the face of what Christians commonly say today, “God love the sinner but hates the sin.”
I know what people mean by that, but I am not so sure that type of phrase sends the right message.
I believe that God send Jesus to redeem the world
All who call on the name of Jesus will be saved
All have the opportunity to do that
Until then all are enemies of God, condemned by God

Note the emphasis in verse 6, 9-10

!!! III.
The Lord loves those who put Him first vv.
7-8

1.
I will come into Your house

2.
I will worship You

3.

“Make your way straight before my face.”
He is asking for the Lord to make His way obvious to him
He is implying that he will trust in the Lord
