v 5-9

Pharoah changed his mind…again
when you change your mind, you have not repented
the impact began to hit
their building projects stopped, their workers were gone
get the army together
600 best chariots, other chariots, officers
“Defiantly”
Pharoah changed his mind and now believes the Israelites are being defiant
convinced himself and others that they left without permission
may be trying to save face since he let them go

v 10-14

Israel’s faith falters
Fear over faith
remember series “Wounds’ our fear can over ride our pre-frontal cortex where faith and rational thought are processed
Instead of turning to God, they turned to their enemy
when confronted with Egypt’s army, fear overcame faith
notice, they turned from the pillar of God leading them, and towards the enemy coming to destroy them
like Peter on the water
“did you bring us out here to die?”
“we told you to leave us in Egypt!”
“we want to go back”
they were brought out of Egypt to serve God, now they want to serve Pharoah
lack of faith
Moses’ response
“Don’t be afraid,”
Rebuke! negative imperative
a common phrase told to the people all through journey from Egypt to Canaan
“Stand firm”
don’t waver hold strong
After our salvation Satan attacks! he will try to pull you back into your sin.
  Charles Spurgeon wrote:
I dare say you will think it a very easy thing to stand still, but it is one of the postures which a Christian soldier learns not without years of teaching. I find that marching and quick marching are much easier to God’s warriors than standing still. It is, perhaps, the first thing we learn in the drill of human armies, but it is one of the most difficult to learn under the Captain of our salvation. The apostle seems to hint at this difficulty when he says, “Stand fast, and having done all, still stand.” To stand at ease in the midst of tribulation, shows a veteran spirit, long experience, and much grace.1

discipleship comes in.
place your faith in God not your fear
placing faith in fear will only serve to destroy and not build up

v.15-31

Keep moving!
God will get Egypt fired up and they will follow
only their outcome will be different
a “crushing Victory”
God will be honored
all will know who rescued you!
v 19
the pillar moved!
not only blocked and slowed down Egypt
turned the gaze of God’s people
they were looking at the problem and not the solution
so God got in the way
The water divided
walked on dry land
(story of liberal preacher at a traditional church)
Egypt followed after
confusion
slow down, caused them to not be able to get close
they wanted to leave Israel alone
Water restored
God was the last word on their lips!
destroyed them all
their bodies lined to sea shore
God will be glorified
the people feared the Lord
they saw his power up close and they believed

Series Conclusion

God is with you!
he is working even when we cannot see it
while Israel cried out in Egypt
God was working on Moses
his timing is perfect
