Renewed Expectation

Isaiah 59:15–60:7 NKJV
So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak. According to their deeds, accordingly He will repay, Fury to His adversaries, Recompense to His enemies; The coastlands He will fully repay. So shall they fear The name of the Lord from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. “The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the Lord. “As for Me,” says the Lord, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the Lord, “from this time and forevermore.” Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising. “Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you; Your sons shall come from afar, And your daughters shall be nursed at your side. Then you shall see and become radiant, And your heart shall swell with joy; Because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you. The multitude of camels shall cover your land, The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense, And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord. All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you; They shall ascend with acceptance on My altar, And I will glorify the house of My glory.

Renewed Expectation

God’s people become discouraged by sin and lawlessness.
God sovereignly intervenes to punish evil and restore His glory.
A renewed sense of expectation begins to encourage God’s people.

The Judgment of God’s Enemies

Isaiah 59:15–19 NKJV
Against His adversaries
Against His enemies
They will again fear Him
When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will raise up a standard against him.

A Call to Repentance

Isaiah 59:20 NKJV
“The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the Lord.
God begins to call His people out of sin and compromise. This is characterized by conviction of sin and a response of heartfelt repentance.
Righteousness, holiness, and the fear of the LORD become a longing in the heart.

Spiritual Outpouring

Isaiah 59:21 NKJV
“As for Me,” says the Lord, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the Lord, “from this time and forevermore.”

Holy Revival in the Church

Isaiah 60:1 NKJV
Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
Light: A conscious awareness of the presence of Jesus Christ in our midst.
The glory of the LORD: The manifest presence of the Spirit of God working in our midst.

Spiritual Awakening among the Lost

Isaiah 60:2–3 NKJV
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

Renewed Vision for the Harvest

Isaiah 60:4 NKJV
“Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you; Your sons shall come from afar, And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.

Return of God’s Favor and Blessing

Isaiah 60:5–6 NKJV
Then you shall see and become radiant, And your heart shall swell with joy; Because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you. The multitude of camels shall cover your land, The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense, And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.

Restoration of Acceptable Worship and God’s Glory

Isaiah 60:7 NKJV
All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you; They shall ascend with acceptance on My altar, And I will glorify the house of My glory.
