This week we are going to look at the only ONE that ever deserves our praise and adoration. The King of Kings that entered Jerusalem on a Donkey
Explanation
Get out your Bibles (Matthew 21)
All four of the gospels record the Triumphal Entry
They are all the same account and each offer their eyewitness view of what happened.
Explain why there are differences
Only Luke though records Jesus Weeping over the city
Mark & Luke Don’t record the Zechariah 9:9 prophecy of the King coming on a donkey
Turn to Matthew 21:1-11
Setup the Time frame
6 Days before Passover Jesus was in Bethany having dinner with Lazarus
Martha and Mary
John 12:1-3 Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. (Map Slide)
Matthew 21:1-11
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5 “Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ” v
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
Blessed is the one that comes in the name of the Lord
10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Luke is the only one that records Jesus weeping over the city.
Luke 19:41-44
41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”
John 12:12-19
The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,
“Hosanna!”
Application
What are we to take away from The Triumphal entry?
Worship
Obedience
Jesus was obedient even to the cross. He suffered and died for us
Obedience to What?
The Sermon On The Mount
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
Prophecy (The Destruction of the Temple)
The Prophecy from Luke 19:41-44
This happened in 70 AD
From April to September 70 AD Jerusalem was under siege and fell to the Roman Army.
The Temple to this day does not exist in fact there is a Muslim Shrine where the Temple once stood.
In Rome today there still stands the Arch of Titus
It was constructed in c. 81 AD by the Emperor Domitian shortly after the death of his older brother Titus to commemorate Titus's official deification or consecratio and the victory of Titus together with their father, Vespasian, over the Jewish rebellion in Judaea.

Are we the crowd that understood the Jesus was the Messiah
Do we understand that Jesus is the only one who deserves our adoration?
The only one that can save us. I do!
This week is the week we remember all that Jesus did for us.
This is the week...
The week He entered Jerusalem as King on a road paved with coats and palm branches
The week He wept over the city because they rejected Him
The week He would clear the temple for a second time
The week He would be tried and convicted
The week when He would see the crowd cheer for the release of a guilty man and demand that Jesus the innocent man be crucified
The week when He would see His disciples abandon Him
The week Simon from Cyrene would carry the cross for Him
The week He would be mocked
The week He would be beaten nearly to death
The week when He would be put on a cross between 2 thieves in front of His mother
The week when He would tell John “Here is your mother”
The week He would say “Forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”
The week when one of the thieves next to Him would be with Him in Paradise
The week He would say “It is finished”
The week He would be laid in a borrowed tomb
So this week what are we to do for Him.
We should adore Him
Trust Him
Love Him
Be thankful for His sacrifice
Love God with all our heart
Love others as ourself
Sacrifice for others
We should accept Him as are Saviour
Call to Action
