A Royal Priesthood (Part 1)

1 Peter 2:9a

00:01:39 – may have been muted up to this point

1 Peter 2:4-10

4 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God,

  • \\ 5 *you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
  • \\ 6 *For this is contained in Scripture:

“Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone,

And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

  • \\ 7 *This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve,

“The stone which the builders rejected,

This became the very corner stone,

  • \\ 8 *and,

“A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense”;

for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.

  • \\ 9 *But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
  • \\ 10 *for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

“The priesthood of the  bliever is the privlege won for every Christian by Christ giving the believer access to God in prayer, confession, sacrifice and word.”

Every beleiver is a priest before God.

1 Timothy 2:5

  • \\ 5 *For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

Psalm 103:1-14

  • \\ 1 *A Psalm of David.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,

And all that is within me, bless His holy name.

  • \\ 2 *Bless the Lord, O my soul,

And forget none of His benefits;

  • \\ 3 *Who pardons all your iniquities,

Who heals all your diseases;

  • \\ 4 *Who redeems your life from the pit,

Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;

  • \\ 5 *Who satisfies your years with good things,

So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

  • \\ 6 *The Lord performs righteous deeds

And judgments for all who are oppressed.

  • \\ 7 *He made known His ways to Moses,

His acts to the sons of Israel.

  • \\ 8 *The Lord is compassionate and gracious,

Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.

  • \\ 9 *He will not always strive with us,

Nor will He keep His anger forever.

  • \\ 10 *He has not dealt with us according to our sins,

Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

  • \\ 11 *For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.

  • \\ 12 *As far as the east is from the west,

So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

  • \\ 13 *Just as a father has compassion on his children,

So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

  • \\ 14 *For He Himself knows our frame;

He is mindful that we are but dust.

1 Peter 2:9

  • \\ 9 *But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

00:19:33 – Story

  • \\ 1 Peter 2:9*
  • \\ 9 *But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Ephesians 2:12-16

  • \\ 12 *remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
  • \\ 13 *But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
  • \\ 14 *For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,
  • \\ 15 *by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,
  • \\ 16 *and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.
