Thirsty Like Jesus
Soon the news reached the Jewish religious leaders known as the Pharisees that Jesus was drawing greater crowds of followers coming to be baptized than John. (Although Jesus didn’t baptize, but had his disciples baptize the people.) Jesus heard what was being said and abruptly left Judea and returned to the province of Galilee, and he had to pass through Samaritan territory.
Jesus arrived at the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son, Joseph, long ago.Wearied by his long journey, he sat on the edge of Jacob’s well. He sent his disciples into the village to buy food, for it was already afternoon.
Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink of water.”
Surprised, she said, “Why would a Jewish man ask a Samaritan woman for a drink of water?”
Jesus replied, “If you only knew who I am and the gift that God wants to give you—you’d ask me for a drink, and I would give to you living water.”
The woman replied, “But sir, you don’t even have a bucket and this well is very deep. So where do you find this ‘living water’? Do you really think that you are greater than our ancestor Jacob who dug this well and drank from it himself, along with his children and livestock?”
Jesus answered, “If you drink from Jacob’s well you’ll be thirsty again and again, but if anyone drinks the living water I give them, they will never thirst again and will be forever satisfied! For when you drink the water I give you it becomes a gushing fountain of the Holy Spirit, springing up and flooding you with endless life!”
The woman replied, “Let me drink that water so I’ll never be thirsty again and won’t have to come back here to draw water.”
Jesus said, “Go get your husband and bring him back here.”
“But I’m not married,” the woman answered.
“That’s true,” Jesus said, “for you’ve been married five times and now you’re living with a man who is not your husband. You have told the truth.”
The woman said, “You must be a prophet! So tell me this: Why do our fathers worship God here on this nearby mountain, but your people teach that Jerusalem is the place where we must worship. Which is right?”
Jesus responded, “Believe me, dear woman, the time has come when you won’t worship the Father on a mountain nor in Jerusalem, but in your heart. Your people don’t really know the One they worship. We Jews worship out of our experience, for it’s from the Jews that salvation is made available. From here on, worshiping the Father will not be a matter of the right place but with the right heart. For God is a Spirit, and he longs to have sincere worshipers who worship and adore him in the realm of the Spirit and in truth.”
The woman said, “This is all so confusing, but I do know that the Anointed One is coming—the true Messiah. And when he comes, he will tell us everything we need to know.”
Jesus said to her, “You don’t have to wait any longer, the Anointed One is here speaking with you—I am the One you’re looking for.”
At that moment the disciples returned and were stunned to see Jesus speaking with the Samaritan woman. Yet none of them dared to ask him why or what they were discussing. All at once, the woman dropped her water jar and ran off to her village and told everyone, “Come and meet a man at the well who told me everything I’ve ever done! He could be the Anointed One we’ve been waiting for.” Hearing this, the people came streaming out of the village to go see Jesus.
As we begin this discussion/message as the Holy Spirit guides let’s first be reminded who Christ is..
The word of God reminds us that our Savior is Altogether lovely, Song of Solomon 5:16 “His mouth is most sweet, and he is altogether desirable. This is my beloved and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.”
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
We are are offered the way to life eternal through the precious blood of Christ Jesus. I Peter 1:19-20 “But the precious blood of Christ-who like a spotless, unblemished lamb was scarified for us. This was part of God’s plan, for he was chosen and destined for this before the foundation of the earth was laid, but he has made manifest in these last days for you.”
John 3:16-17 “For this is how much God loved the world-he gave his one and only, unique son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life. God did not send his Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it!” He’s the spotless One was given to us to redeem us…Luke 23:34b “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what thy’re doing.” He’s our “Forgiving” He uttered the above words from the cross as He was forgiving the very ones who were taking away His life. “Father, forgive then, for they do not know what the do.”
In this message let’s be reminded that we’re his children; once we commit to Him as our Savior and Lord; as Romans 10:9 states “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto to salvation. For the scripture said, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”
The question on the table for us this evening “Are You Thirsty Like Jesus?”
Now let us hold on to that thought as we turn our attention to a meeting-this meeting is a life changing moment for a woman Jesus met-A Samaritan Woman!
Now let’s turn our attention to John 4:1-30 (The Passion Bible: New Testament
“The/A Thirsty Savior”

Jesus heard what was being said and abruptly left Judea and returned to the province of Galilee, and he had to pass through Samaritan territory.
The Pharisees followed the Jewish law and traditions; and they did agree with Jesus for His belief in the law and for belief in the resurrection of the dead, and His commitment to obey God’s will (His Father’s will…)
Jesus realized that this group was stirring up trouble; so He quickly left Judea and went to Galilee. Galilee is the place where he was brought up. Luke 2:39 says “And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.”
Luke 2:51 states “And he went down with them, and come to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.”
Jesus had uttered in Luke 2:49 at the age of twelve years old; Jesus uttered “And he said unto them, Hoe is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that i must be about my Father’s business?” Jesus was about His Heavenly Father’s Business.
Therefore, as we travel through this passage of scripture John 4:1-3.. The Thirsty Savior
Recall now our Savior is headed towards Jerusalem-on His way to Calvary's Cross.
He was now leaving Judea and had returned to Galilee where He grew up and was raised by His earthly parents Joseph and Mary. He had to passed through Samaritan territory.
Jesus arrived at the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son, Joseph, long ago.
We must grasp/[ understand here that the Water Jesus was speaking of was the refreshing, satisfying pleasure He was talking about as he spoke to the Samaritan woman was her devotion to and for Him. His Spirit, the Holy Spirit even speaks to us the love He has for us as we devote our lives to Him. This is why He arrives in Samara that day to let the woman know that the One she truly needed was Him and His love for her… (John 3:16-17) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in hin should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
The sinner drank of the Savior and the Savior drank of the sinner, washing away the sinner’s sins… What can Wash away my sins nothing but the blood of Jesus!!! His blood has cleansing power...
Salvation is free/Freedom from all sin…

Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink of water.”
Jesus replied, “If you only knew who I am and the gift that God wants to give you—you’d ask me for a drink, and I would give to you living water.”
The woman replied, “But sir, you don’t even have a bucket and this well is very deep. So where do you find this ‘living water’?
Do you really think that you are greater than our ancestor Jacob who dug this well and drank from it himself, along with his children and livestock?”

Are we Thirsty like Jesus, Jesus’ thirst was to seek to save those that are lost. And once the Samaritan Woman had her encounter with Him she became thirsty too “The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?”
He knows who we are and where we are in Him… He Knows our name!!!
