Introduction

Of all of the human interaction there is nothing more significant than touch.
Over the last year the pandemic has been a reason for separation.
That separation produced
++Fear
++Anxiety
++Brokenness
++Loneliness

We are wired for connection

Separation is the farthest place from touch.
Luke 8:43–50 ESV
43 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.” 49 While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler’s house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.” 50 But Jesus on hearing this answered him, “Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well.”

The word for separation used in the Bible is death.

Romans 5:14 ESV
14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.

Man’s First Touch

It is first mentioned in the garden of Eden
Genesis 3:3 ESV
3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”

Why did she include “neither touch it”?

Though it was not mentioned in the original commandment, it is highly likely that it was added by Adam to her, since she was not there when the commandment was given.
Why would he add it?

Don’t tough this

Paul recognized toxic relationships

2 Corinthians 6:16–17 ESV
16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you,
