The Wisdom of Solomon

· Solomon is recorded as the wisest of men
· A man of wisdom and prayer (1 Kings 3:9-12;28)
· He sought wisdom and prayed for it
o In here we find that wisdom brings discernment between good and evil (right and wrong)
· His wisdom was renowned throughout Israel and the ancient world, and even in the eyes of modern man (1 Kings 3:28; 4:34)
· We should pay attention to what this father has to say, for God the Father has given him this great wisdom for our benefit, to judge what is right before the Almighty.

Purpose of the father’s teaching

· Not just for making better decisions in earthly living and success in home, finances, and business, or even war
· To bring us knowledge of God (v.7)
o 2 Timothy 3:15-17 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
2 Timothy 3:15–17 KJV 1900
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
§ To Teach us the Word of God
§ To make us wise unto salvation through faith
§ To make us a Perfect (complete) and furnished (equipped) man of God
o Titus 2:11-13 “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;”
Titus 2:11–13 KJV 1900
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
§ For enables and inspires us to do all good works
§ Gives us hope in the appearing of God the Father and Jesus Christ
§ Instructs us in our redemption from all iniquity
§ Tells of our purification
§ Gives us the ability to speak of the kingdom of God, exhort one another, and authoritatively rebuke heresy’s from any other authority
When we are young and inexperienced, we lack temperance and maturity, many of us make foolish decisions.
· We need a guide
· Someone who knows about the snares of the enemy
· Someone who has successfully navigated the pitfalls of this world
· Someone who had had his struggles and has overcome
· Someone who has learned how to walk with God
· That someone is who God has given us in our godly fathers

It is the Instruction of the Father that gives us knowledge

· Of our Heavenly Father
· Of the love of God
· Of the need to walk in integrity – have a backbone of righteousness
· Of discernment of truth from lie
· Of justice and judgement

It is instruction the gives us

· A sound mind
· Knowledge of God – a higher authority than ourselves
· Sound principles
It is instruction that keeps us from
· Folly (foolish decisions)
· Transgression (Proverbs 19:2)
· False teachings
· Poor judgement

Instruction drives us to Sound Doctrine

· Proper conclusions in reference to belief in God
· Walking in sanctification
· Walking in humility and in retrospect
· Fear of God
· Thankfulness to God
· To defense of the meek and lowly
· To honor of our father and our mother
· To Love unconditionally
v.5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
· Even the learned and experience must increase in knowledge and in instruction
· Father’s should be men of learning and understanding
· Father’s should be teachers of the hidden things of God
· Father’s should be teachers who hear
· Many heresies and disputes in the church would be prevented if Father’s would increase their learning and their instructions
Oh man, why do you call yourself and elder and a leader in the church if you do not lead in the primary purpose of the church?

Primary purpose (Matthew 28:19-20)

Matthew 28:19–20 KJV 1900
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
· Teach all nations
· Baptize them
· Teach all things commanded
o Love the Lord
o Love one another
o Walk circumspectly – be wise, receive instruction

Fathers are the Stewart of God’s word in the home.

· How did Able know how to make a pleasing sacrifice? – his father
· How did Isaac know to trust the Lord? – his father
· Fathers are to be teachers of the truth!
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
This is the foundation of all instruction…
· Without instruction of who God is, there can be no knowledge of anything else, no understanding

What is the fear of the Lord?

· Affectionate reverence
· Humbleness before God
· Obedience to His Will
· A desire to please Him
A father teaches these by his words and by his deeds, he is an example of godliness to his family and to his community.
There is no instruction more important to man (Job 28:28; Eccl 12:13)
Job 28:28 KJV 1900
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV 1900
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
The instruction of a father is a precious gift that is given to his children
· It is not to be taken lightly or ignored
· It makes one to prosper
· It brings us peace with God
· It brings us the knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and eternal life
· Without knowledge a man perishes
o My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. (Hosea 4:6)
Hosea 4:6 KJV 1900
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: Because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

What is the most important thing to teach father?

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 - And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 KJV 1900
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
· Love God
· Love others
· Be Patient
· Be a good worker – expect to work hard and long
· Be Self-Disciplined
· Be sober minded – not given to drugs or drunkenness
· Be worthy of respect – don’t demand it
· Be humble before God and man
· Teach the salvation of the gospel to your children, it is not their decision, nor is it their school teachers, or the television’s, not the internet, nor the government’s responsibility
· God gave this responsibility to you!
· Stand up and be a man of God!
