Fathers have many responsibilities. One of the most important jobs of a father is to pass on the wisdom of God to their children. Proverbs explains how we as should pass on the wisdom of God by giving advise and Rebuke. These passages apply especially to fathers as they pass on the wisdom of God by advising and rebuking their children.

Motive for Giving Rebuke

Proverbs 27:5–6 NASB95
5 Better is open rebuke Than love that is concealed. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
Proverbs 13:24 NASB95
24 He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently.
Proverbs 19:18 NASB95
18 Discipline your son while there is hope, And do not desire his death.
Proverbs 20:30 NASB95
30 Stripes that wound scour away evil, And strokes reach the innermost parts.
Proverbs 22:15 NASB95
15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.
Proverbs 23:14–15 NASB95
14 You shall strike him with the rod And rescue his soul from Sheol. 15 My son, if your heart is wise, My own heart also will be glad;
Proverbs 29:15 NASB95
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.
Proverbs 29:17 NASB95
17 Correct your son, and he will give you comfort; He will also delight your soul.
Proverbs 3:11–12 NASB95
11 My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord Or loathe His reproof, 12 For whom the Lord loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.
Proverbs 22:6 NASB95
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
William MacDonald:
Believer’s Bible Commentary (B. The Righteous Lifestyle Exalted (16:1–22:16))
Henry Ward Beecher observes:It is not hard to make a child or a tree grow right if you train them when they’re young, but to make them straighten out after you’ve allowed things to go wrong is not an easy matter.
Hebrews 12:11 NASB95
11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.
