What is the office like?
Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the church to come to him.
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
The one office is known by the titles of elder, bishop, and pastor.
These titles describe the work which the men who hold this office should do.

Οἱ καλῶς προεστῶτες
to exercise a position of leadership, rule, direct, be at the head (of),
What does it look like to “rule well?”
to lead
to rule
to direct
to be at the head of
to be “in the word and prayer.”
to be a teacher of the word.

What is honor?
τιμῆς
manifestation of esteem
We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,
We should render double honor to those elders who work in the Word.
ἐν λόγῳ καὶ διδασκαλίᾳ

And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables.
Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty.
But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”
