It is inevitable so don’t delay

Philippians 2:9 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,

Jesus is fully God

Philippians 2:5–6 ESV
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
Hebrews 1:3 ESV
3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Jesus died for your sins

Philippians 2:7–8 ESV
7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
What better lord could there be?
2 Corinthians 5:14–15 ESV
14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.

How do you know if Jesus is your Lord?

Philippians 2:9–11 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

You will confess Jesus as Lord

Philippians 2:11 ESV
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Confessing means to profess openly in honor of another, whether in praise, thankfulness, or acknowledgement.
Confessing is an expression of faith or belief that happens in one’s heart.
Romans 10:9 ESV
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:10 ESV
10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
So first you must believe in your heart that Jesus truly is Lord. That He is the God of the universe, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. That he is fully God. You must believe that Jesus died for your sins on the cross, that He was buried, and that He rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven and is presently seated at the right hand of the Father. You must believe that Christ alone can save you from your sins, that He paid the penalty for your sins when He shed His blood on the cross and that no work of righteousness can ever merit you favor in the eyes of Almighty God. Only by believing in your heart that Jesus is both your Lord and your Savior can you have salvation.
And once you really believe that to be true, you accept what God reveals to be true in His Word, you then cannot help but to confess that truth with your mouth. This is a divine work of the Spirit of God.
No one can confess Jesus as Lord unless the Spirit opens their ears so that they might hear the truth of Scripture, no one can confess Jesus as Lord unless the Spirit opens their eyes so that they might understand the significance of the truth of the gospel. No one can confess Jesus as Lord unless the Spirit gives them softened hearts to desire Jesus to be their lord.
1 Corinthians 12:3 ESV
3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.
John 1:12 ESV
12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
Is Jesus your Lord? Have you received Him? Have you believed in his name? If so you must confess Him as your Lord! Openly, publically, unashamedly.
Matthew 10:32–33 ESV
32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
1 John 2:23 ESV
23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.

You will bow your knee to Jesus as Lord

Philippians 2:10 ESV
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
What does it mean that you will bow your knee to Jesus as your Lord? You will submit to His authority over your life. You will gladly accept Him as your master. Your life is no longer your own, you are bought with a price, so you will freely desire to glorify the Lord in all you do.
Illustration: State street- “Can I still be a homosexual and trust Jesus?”
Titus 1:16 ESV
16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
John 3:36 ESV
36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Repentance:
“Fallen man is not simply an imperfect creature who needs improvement: he is a rebel who must lay down his arms…This process of surrender…is what Christians call repentance.” —C.S. Lewis
Titus 2:14 ESV
14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
Illustration: Lawlessness- examples: My body, my choice / Worship yourself and the world will follow
Isaiah 55:7 ESV
7 let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Revelation 16:9 ESV
9 They were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues. They did not repent and give him glory.
Is Jesus your Lord? I have prayed a prayer, I confess Him with my mouth- but have you ever bowed the knee to Him as Lord of all creation?
Titus 1:16 ESV
16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
Matthew 7:22 ESV
22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’
Matthew 7:23 ESV
23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
You might be a religious person, you might be descent member of society, you might go to church, you might give money to help the poor- but you are not a Christian. You might read your Bible and pray and post religious sayings on your walls, but you are not a Christian. Why not? Because you have never bowed the knee to Jesus as your Lord. Your eyes have never been opened, you have never seen your need. You are still controlled by a lawless heart, you have never repented, you have never come to God in surrender. You have never turned from your wicked ways, you don’t want a lord, you don’t want a master. You want to be your own master and lord. One day Jesus will say to you- depart from you, you worker of lawlessness.
Illustration: Evangelism for the fainthearted
Gerhard and I eventually did meet for lunch once, and he began to read John’s Gospel with me. After three months of reading together, he broke off our lunch dates. At our last meeting, in a packed restaurant, he screamed at me, “It is not human to have a Lord!”
“Exactly!” I told him. “That’s exactly what Jesus wants to be – your Lord, nothing more and nothing less.”
How about you? Are you a Gerhard? Do you absolutely reject the idea that Jesus wants to be your Lord? Nothing more and nothing less.
You can receive Him as your Lord right now! Right where you are sitting in your heart your can put your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and your Savior. You can be saved this instant. If you do that will you come to me and confess with your mouth that which you have believed in your heart? I would love to rejoice with you!

You will imitate His example

Philippians 2:9 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
Vindication! proof that someone or something is right, reasonable, or justified.
Was it right or reasonable or justified for the Son of God to empty himself by adding to his divine nature and fully human nature, so that he could humble himself by becoming obedient even to death on a cross?
Philippians 2:8 ESV
8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Was this right or reasonable or justified? Absolutely YES! How do we know?
Philippians 2:9 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
God gave evidence that Jesus’ actions were right and reasonable and justified- how? By highly exalting Him and bestowing on Him the name that is above every name? By this act of raising Jesus Christ from the dead and exalting Him to sit at his right hand and bestowing on Him the name that is above every name- God vindicated the Son.
How does that apply to us? We are commanded to follow Jesus’ example- v. 5, let this mind(set) be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. Why would anyone in their right mind follow the same mindset as Jesus? Look at where it led Him! He lowered Himself, He emptied Himself, He humbled himself and it let Jesus to the cross! But, what happened after the cross? Because of the mindset of Jesus that led Him to the cross God has highly exalted Him! And the implication is, if we follow the same mindset and we sacrifice ourselves for the interests of others, if we sacrifice ourselves for the glory of Christ and the advancement of the gospel- so too will God exalt us- or God will vindicate us, he will provide proof that we were right and reasonable and justified in sacrificing our lives for other people for the sake of the gospel.
Illustration: The Moravian young men who sold themselves into slavery- Family members were emotional, weeping. Was their extreme sacrifice wise? Was it necessary? Do you think one day God will vindicate their choice to sacrifice their positions in order to reach those 3000 slaves for the gospel? Will God vindicate you one day if you put on the mindset of Jesus and sacrifice yourself for the sake of the gospel?
2 Timothy 2:11–12 ESV
11 The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;
Hebrews 12:2–3 ESV
2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
Why should we put into practice a Christlike mindset?
Philippians 2:5 NIV
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Because if we follow the example of Jesus- if we imitate Jesus just as God vindicated Jesus- by raising Him up from the dead, and exalting Him to sit at his right hand- so too will God vindicate us.

“Get Thyself the victory in these poor sinners' hearts. Let not the word spoken prove like water spilt upon the ground. Send down, send down, O great High Priest, the Holy Spirit, to convince the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. So will we give thanks and praise to Thee, O Father, to Thee, O Son, and to Thee, O blessed Spirit; to whom as three Persons, but one God, be ascribed by angels and archangels, by cherubim and seraphim and all the heavenly hosts, all possible power, might, majesty and dominion, now and for evermore. Amen, Amen, Amen." (George Whitefield)
