Intro
Erroneous views of God – Erroneous views of the Gospel
· Time & Age: 2 Peter 3:3-9 (NASB95)
One day is a thousand years / A thousand years being one day to God
This covers the full spectrum of time. God does not deal in time and tears the way we do.
“Time deceives you; it hardens the aged.”
· Too much wrong / sin: Romans 5:20 (NASB95) “The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”
A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.” Matthew quotes Isaiah - (Mt. 12:20)
God reveals sin to the end that the guilty soul will seek His mercy and Grace.
1. Can You Escape? (The Need For A Savior)
o The law of sin / Romans 7:25; 8:2-4 - with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.
o The Wages of Sin / Romans 6:23
2. The Means of Escape (The Actions of God)
o God’s love / 1 Jn. 4:10; Romans 8:32 - “He first loved us.” “He Spared not His Own son.”
o The ransom paid / 1 Peter 1:18 - “Redeemed by the precious blood.”
o Justification / Romans 5:1 – (Made righteous; reconciled with God)
3. The Experience of Escape (The Gift Of Life from God)
o Receive the Spirit of Life – (Acts 2:38) Repent…you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
o Not only saved from past but kept for eternity / Hebrews 12:2; Phil. 1:6 – The author and finisher of our faith; he who begins a good work will finish it!
o The Law of the Spirit / Romans 8:1-7 / freedom and power over sin.
o The Old Life Passes / 2 Cor. 5:17; Romans 6:5-7
Close
1 John 3:14 / We have passed from death to life.
Ezekiel 18:27;30-32 / But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed and does what is just and right, they will save their life.
“Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die…I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
Your way of escape is through God’s love, God’s justice, God’s mercy, and God’s grace. Your salvation is in Jesus Christ.
