Where Does Your Power Exist?

One song I love to sing and hear is “We’ve Got the Power” and we do! But often we forget where that power lies, and just what gives a Pentecostal believer that power!

Is it in miracles? Speaking in tongues? Shouting? Rolling around? Songs? Shouting? What is it that gives us the power? What makes us special? Israel once forgot what it was that made them special!

1 Samuel 4:1-11KJV

1 And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek. 2 And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men. 3 And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies. 4 So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. 5 And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again. 6 And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp. 7 And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore. 8 Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness. 9 Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.

10 And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. 11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

1. Mistake number one! Blaming God!
     a. The first defeat. They lost 4,000 men to the sword because of this pain they started to think they weren’t used to losing battles. Then they make the big errors of their way.

     b. verse 3 they blamed God for a problem that was caused by their own sins.

Isaiah 50:1KJV

1 Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother’s divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

     c. Mistake number 2 they decided to do what they thought would be best instead of asking God! They trusted a thing instead of God! Verse 3 last half

James 4:8KJV

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Many times we are guilty also of doing things as we think not as God wills.

2. Mistake 3, The Israelites then put their trust in an object!

a. verse 5 they then shouted with a great shout! Because they thought the Ark of the Covenant would bring them victory! Verse 5

b. The Philistines then asked what is this great noise! They were afraid but their generals told them to stand strong and they made another stand. Verse 6

c. The Philistines actually said something that showed more faith than Israel that “God is come into the camp” they knew that God unbeatable! They were saying woe is me! Because of their belief in God’s power! Israel was just searching for something they could see. Verse 7-9

3. Israel was beaten! Because they trusted in an ark instead of God!

a. We’ve got the Power and not because of our things or our actions but in the name of Jesus! Israel lost 4,000 in the first battle, but then they lost 30,000 men when they were beaten the second time!

James 4:10KJV

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

b. The Ark of the covenant was taken, Hophni and Phineas were both killed, when Eli heard what happened he even fell over and died!

c. We must put our trust in God!!!!!

1 Kings 19:11-13KJV

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
