ANXIETY, WORRY, AND TENSION

Definition:

The state of being concerned or troubled with distressing thoughts of real or imagined problems.  Anxiety is the carnal nature expressing its belief in the inability of God to handle the situation.

Biblical Statement:

These problems exist because a person relies upon his own strength rather than upon God and His Word.  It is the result of leaning upon your own understanding in dealing with our problems.  The Bible=s answer to this problem is,

ACast all your anxiety on Him for He cares about you. (1 Pet. 5:7).

Matthew 6:24-34  No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

28And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (NIV)

1 Corinthians 7:32    32 I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs -- how he can please the Lord. (NIV)

Philippians 4:6  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (NIV)

Counsel

God wants us to be free from worry.  Anxiety chokes the Word of God and keeps us from maturing in the Lord

 Luke 8:14 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. (NIV)

Our faith and the corresponding strength to face problems are built up by the Word of God;

Romans 10:17 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. (NIV)

If this strength and this growing process are shut down because of worry, we become an open target for Satan

1 Peter 5:8  8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

But look here at verse 9-10 God says;

9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (NIV)

Replace worry: We must excuse ourselves from Apity parties.@  Christ answered that question for us in Matthew 6:33

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (NIV)

Our worry and frustration over the cares of this life won=t change things.  Our heavenly Father, however, knows our every need and will supply according to His promise.

Meet with your worry and tension with prayer and supplication with thanksgiving

Philippians 4:6 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (NIV)

Jesus is here right now to take your cares.  He is your source of strength

Philippians 4:13 13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength. (NIV)

Prayer:

Thank God that we can cast all our cares upon Him.  Place on Him right now all your problems.  Pray for the complete peace of God to be upon our brothers/sisters.

Praise Him for meeting these need(s).  Agree together that these needs are met, for God has promised that where two agree about anything it shall be done.

Matthew 18:19-20 19 "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." (NIV)
