Numbers Chapter 30 numbers. 30

an acquaintance of mine named. Mark was a young Marine who was sent to fight in the Vietnam War by his own admission. Mark was a backsplit. And Christian one day on patrol, his unit was ambushed and Mark was pinned down under heavy fire. He was convinced he was about to die. So I made a vow. Got to get me out of this, I'll become a preacher. How many people make those kind of promises? Well, God delivered him a coerced and he did go on to become a preacher and a chaplain as a matter of fact, but biles, oldest and promises are not just for people trying to get out of trouble. It's not just about bargaining with God, to cut a deal with God, when you're under pressure and promises are part of everyday life. In fact, every day, our lives are affected by them. Are you married, if you're married, you sign legal papers, you entered a contract. In fact, you probably said wedding vows in which you made promises before God and your family and friends. You're called to testify in court. You do so under oath to be truthful. When you sign a lease for a rental unit or sign a contract to purchase a house, you are swearing to honor the terms of that deal. When you have a contractor you hired. You were agreeing to pay the costs for that work. When you enlist in the military or take a commission, you swear to uphold the Constitution and fulfill the terms of service, even though you might have times when you doubt that years ago, when I was young, chap, what is sometimes help fill in at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center where they at Navy, boot camp and especially in the summer, when all the new high school graduates, come that be swamped with people and your typical counseling and it was counsel, counsel counsel, they were no, empty spaces. Typical typical Council. He was a man or woman, who has been there 2 weeks, and realized, I've made a horrible mistake. Please get me out of here. One time we had a swarm of people. I looked out in the lobby area. There were over fifty recruits waiting to be counseled and a senior chaplain walked out set. Your hand and most of them raise their hand and come with me group counseling in the classroom and what he would say to them was you signed a contract, you need to try to honor that contract promises old is Bowser things that we ought to try to keep even when it's not easy to keep them last week, I studied the subject in scripture and I was astounded at how frequently the Bible talks about vows and Oaths and Promises. In other words are words mean something, our words are to be kept their sacred and binding. The Jews. Had a long history with boughs and nose and packed it goes back to Genesis when Jacob saw the stairway going up into heaven and he saw a vision of God and he said said if you will bring me back to this land that he was been leaving. If you bring me back to this land, you'll be my God and I will serve you. He was cutting a deal with God, the subject comes up dozens of times in scripture. In fact, it's a key part of the Walk. Think about it, even the Ten Commandments address it. The third commandment says, not to take the Lord, Name in vain. In other words, don't disrespect that name. The ninth commandment talks about not bearing. False witness told both these, look at the truthfulness, the veracity of our words. Jesus addressed in The Sermon on the Mount James and the book of Hebrews also speak to it as well. Find out this morning this morning, we're going to get gas Council on Val's owes and Promises. So let me first, talk about the problem, and then we'll look at the solution. What is the problem we're talkin about? Very simply, it's this people don't keep their word to have. You noticed, people don't keep their word and unfortunately that's as old as the human story ever since about Genesis chapter 3, when the man and woman were deceitful after they send why our vows and O's as old as Humanity the most ancient civilizations had them dancers because people can't trust each other. So biles and O's are steps to try to make people accountable to get truthfulness. God gave Moses further guidance on. This is your numbers 30 will look at that in just a moment. But why was a chapter on vows and Oaths necessary? Well, the people we're about to enter the land and set up a new society and it needed to be able to trust one another. They needed to have integrity and their relationships in their words, and their promises to one another. So, let's take an example of what are we going to find in Chapter 30, you're going to find examples of people breaking their vows, or their olds? And that's really what causes this chapter to be given Moses received the word of the Lord, let's read chapter 30 of the book of numbers together. And you'll see that this is addressing a problem that was existence among the people of Israel. And unfortunately, still with us today, Chapter 30 verse 1:10, Moses spoke to the head to the tribes concerning the children of Israel saying. This is the thing which the Lord has commanded, if a man makes a bow to the Lord or swears an oath to bind them self. Buy some agreement, he shall not break his word. Do according to all that precedes out of his mouth first 3, or if a woman makes a bow to the Lord and finds herself by some agreement while in her father's house in her Youth. And her father hears her about an agreement by which he has found herself and her father holds his peace then all her bottles, she'll stand and agreements with which he has found herself. She'll stand. But if her father overrules her on the day, that he hears, then none of her about snorter agreements by which she is bound herself. She'll stand and the Lord will release her because her father, overruled her. If indeed, she takes a husband while Bound by her vows or buy a rash cutter ants from her lips, by which she bound herself and her husband hears, it, and makes no response to a girl on the day. That he hears, then, her bow shall stand in her agreement by which she found herself. She'll stand. But, if her husband overrules her on the day, that he hears it, he shall make void her vow which she took, and what she added with her lips by, which she bound herself and the Lord will release her. Also, any about Widowed or divorced Woman by which is bound to self, she'll stand against her. If she bowed in her husband's house or bound herself an agreement with a note and her husband, heard it and made no response to her and did not overrule her in all. Her bow, shall stand in every agreement by which she found herself shall stand. But if her husband truly made them boys on the day, he heard them then, whatever. Proceeded from her lips concerning, her bowels. Were concerning the agreement binding, her, it shall not stand. Her husband has made them Lloyd, and the Lord will release her every bow, and every binding oath to afflict your soul, for husband. May confirm it for her husband, may make it moist. Now, if her husband makes no response, whatever to her from day to day, then he confirms all her vows, we're all the agreement said binder, he confirms him, because he made no response to her on the day that he heard them. But if he does, make them boys after he's heard them, then he shall bear her. Guilt. These are the statutes. Which the Lord commanded Moses between a man and his wife and between the father, and Daughter in her Youth and her father's house. May God bless the reading of his word. This chapter summarizes, several situations verse to speak to the men and says men. If you make a vow or no, you better keep it and short, that's pretty simple, pretty straight to the point. The rest of the chapter talks about different scenarios, the set of scenarios regarding the making and breaking about particularly by by women that the men's Bowser unbreakable a girl who lives with her father, Jette a minor. In other words, I heard about is voidable by her father or later by her fiance. It starts again in Chapter 30 verse 9, it kind of turns to widows and divorcees. Their vows are unbreakable. They're not under the authority of the former husband at that point wives Bowser rideable without penalty, or with the penalty depending on the reaction as the rest of the chapter and foals. So this is a chapter that explains and assumes the premise that you ought to keep your word. Don't break. Don't break your promises and it goes on to talk about different applications and situations. People would find themselves in that. Does anybody think it's kind of interesting how much it says to the women? Here are some thoughts on that. This passage certainly a search the right of women to make vows which they might not have had prior it limits the father husband's right to avoid it. In other words, did you notice silence people's consent? If the guy, the father of the husband hears, it says nothing. Your silence equals consent. You, you had your chance to veto it. You didn't. So it stands. And this along with women's property rights, you've already seen the numbers highlights of scripture, elevated, women's rights and ancient times. And cultures, women didn't really have rights for the most part until you see some interesting progression said, develop here. Well, let's clarify the terms. What is a vow? Let me try to break it down and explain. What a vile is about. Could be defined by several aspects. First of all, taped Made before God, vows in the scripture off, and made to God, like my friend Mark in the Foxhole, he knows he's as he's trying to bargain with God for his life to God, but even if they're not directly to God there before God and us accountable to God, it may be directly to god. Let's listen to the Burbage that a law office uses. Today, it's interesting, the verbage, you might hear, if you go to court or give a legal deposition. Is this do you solemnly state that the evidence you shall give in this matter? Shall be the truth. The whole truth and nothing but the truth. So help you God. It is interesting. The court systems have traditionally included God as a witness to your truthfulness and bearing testimony. But even if God is not named directly in the oke still at the one to whom we must give account. Remember, commandment number 9, you shall not bear false witness, even if you're not talking to the Lord directly, you stay, Accountable accountable to him as the God and creator of all. So about a promise made before God, it's a vow to do or not do a certain thing. Sometimes it's positive in the sense. Here's what I will do. Sometimes it's negative. Here's what I will not do. For instance, Hannah made a bow in 1st, Samuel chapter 1, Lord. If you give me a son I'll give them back to you to serve you all his life. She was offering to do something. If God would answer prayers. On the other hand, you have balls like the Nazi rights have been talked about in The Book of Numbers who took vows of Purity and devotion, where they would forsake certain things they wouldn't cut their hair. They weren't that be an easy one for me. By the way, they're going to cut their hair, they would not eat grapes or touch anything dad so you have people that would vow not to do certain things so it could be a positive or A negative value. About also included gaining God's help or showing gratitude. If you're already gave that help another words, sometimes people would vow in order to get something, sometimes they would do because they already had something as a sign of devotion and gratitude jeptha in the Book of Judges filed. With God, if you give me the victory, over our enemies, whatever comes out of my house, I will sacrifice q and he did not realize evidently how costly that would be as his daughter came out. And he dedicated her to Service as a virgin to the Lord Joanna made about from the whale's belly. We don't have the words to his vow, but presumably, it's something about getting out of the whale's belly. He was looking to have that benefit get given by the way the sailors on Jonah's ship after got calm the storm and Jonah was swallowed by the fish. It says they made vows afterwards it. Sometimes we make vows to get something, sometimes it makes us because we seem guy working a powerful dramatic way. Files can come either before or after final eat there, often combined with sacrifices with sacrifices, like, Hannah, who offered sacrifices as she worshipped and vowed valves are often connected in the context of worship in the Tabernacle. In fact, the last two chapters 2829 of numbers were all about sacrifices. So we shouldn't really be surprised to see a chapter on vows since they often went hand-in-hand with giving sacrifices and gifts to God. So why make a bow sometimes? Vows were made as acts of devotion for people to draw near to God. Again, like the nazirite to for game four or four went to a certain Pleasures or privileges. Just for the fact of being closer to God all the times, it's an act of desperation earlier, in the Book of Numbers is real made a vow of the Canaanites, they attacked the numbers 21, and God gave them the victory, by the way, in that case, and number 21, when they vowed to fight this enemy that had trouble them. Made a vow and there's no response from God. So it's almost like God is like the husband silence is consent. In other words, that's a good thing. I'm going to bless you and it and he did. Just that has come in the context of war-like, my acquaintance Mark in Vietnam, recall, as this chapter is being written. Israel's about to go to war themselves, to conquer the promised land. And if they seem desperate, I'm so again, it makes sense that we're talking about vows and Oaths and Promises here. So Numbers Chapter 30, mentions two words frequently mentioned Bauza toes, and take the first two. It mentions both words, there's some overlap between olds and vows, let's talk about what an oath is. An oath is squaring before God to be truthful in the most basic pure sense, people still sueros today. You'll see when a high official in the government is sworn into office. Traditionally, they would place a hand on the Bible as if to say I testify to the truth. When us to the sanctity of this moment, the solemnity of this moment. If you Testify in a court you will very likely see people testifying and swearing on the Bible to tell the truth. At least that used to be the custom of not, so sure it is anymore. How old is involves overlap there often intertwined. In fact sometimes are almost Deuce interchangeable e. So when we talk about, when we really have to talk about the other as well and you'll see in this chapter, another passages that there is a strong link between the two. So we'll talk about those sometimes almost as the same thing, whether we're talking about Val Zoe's or other promises, one thing is clear. God expects us to keep our word. You get that. He expects us to keep our promises to do what we said we would do, despite the clear teaching at the law, by the time of Jesus. Bauza knows were greatly abused. In fact, turn over to the Book of Matthew. If you would, I want to show you from Matthew just to how this came to be misunderstood. You see in the times of the Old Testament, Proceeded after Moses people, sort of finesse the rules and sort of circumvented the rules and teachings, listen to Matthew Chapter 5. When Jesus gave The Sermon on the Mount. Would you be surprised to know that he didn't just talk about murder and adultery and thieves? But he talked about keeping your promises, keeping your old listen to what Jesus said in The Sermon on the Mount. In chapter 5 of Matthew verse 33 heard that it was set of those of all. You shall not swear falsely but she'll perform year olds to the Lord. But I say to you, do not swear at all, neither by heaven for it is God's Throne, by the Earth. Word is his footstool not by Jerusalem for it. Is the city of the great King North show you swear by your head because you cannot make one here, white or black. But let your yes. Be yes. And your no, no, for whatever is more than these is from the evil one. Because the law and precise, the need to keep your vows. And O's some, rabbis read that and said don't even make owes our vows in Jesus. Seems to take that take that stand. But others like the Pharisees device. A practice to offset the issue that they had a good initiative just bad judgment. What was their idea? They said that we want to protect the name, the holy name of God, the most high God and so don't swear or you and open his name. In fact, any oath or promise or value make outside of his name is not really binding. So if you invoke the name of the Lord in your file, then you must keep it the law speaks to you. But if you swear by something else, like, in Jerusalem, or heaven, or Earth, or your head, no big deal. It's hard. Like, when your kids did your interviews, kids do this, where you make a promise, when you cross your fingers behind your back you know which is a kid way of saying I'm not really keeping my promise. I'm just pretending to promise something and that's what that's what we See here, for these Jewish people. They're kind of doing that this practice cheap in the truth and Foster deceit and dishonesty. Another problem address to elsewhere by the Lord is when his son might say his inheritance was dedicated that Nazi was unable to support his parents. You know what, Mom and Dad, I know you're in trouble and I like to help you but I have already pledged all this property to the Lord and so they would use Whole Foods in BIOS in various deceitful ways that they would be doing bad things while making themselves look good, but that's what vows when they're false can do Jesus assessment is pretty clear, there's 37 so let your yes. Be yes. And your no no, for whatever is more than these is from the evil one. Another word to saying. You shouldn't even have to qualify your statements with a square into its truthfulness at words, you should be as good as your word. You should be speaking the truth. So we don't have to filter is this real or is this just posturing? James says the same thing. Listen to James chapter 5 verse 12, but above all my brother do not Square either by heaven or Earth or by any other oath, but let your yes. Be yes. And your no, no less. If you fall on the judgement, you see the Pharisees taught that as long as you didn't invoke the lord's name. It was okay to promise and not keep it. You could break your promise the farther you got your promise away from invoking the name, the safer it was. So then the gate at the whole point of the law, they were legalistic and trying to finesse it and look for loopholes. And they ended up disregarding the whole intent of the law. So what's the point? Let your yes, be. Yes, nothing more should be needed. Why do these things matter? If it's a big deal, especially nowadays. Why is this a big deal? Let me give you a couple reasons to think about yours why this matters. First of all this matters because God is truth is truth. That's one of the name. To the Lord. He is truth. And he expects his people to be truthful. If we're God's children, we ought to act like his children. We ought to reflect the father's valuation virtues. And one of those is truthfulness, when we keep our word, we bear witness to God and imitate him. When we break our word, we look more like the devil then like God, because God cannot lie. He cannot violate the truth. He cannot break a promise and that's the goal. We ought to Aspire to as well. There's a second reason why these things matter. Secondly, because owes and vows are no substitute for integrity. Get you. See the whole point of this teaching? Is that her believer? It shouldn't even be necessary to swear on the Bible or to give a know, your word should be your word. Your word should be something you keep without. Skip the Elation or qualifiers, it should just be good. People are honest olds and swearing would be unnecessary hose make some words more honest. And other words, there's not really the bottom line. If you take a note for those words, better really be on everyday words that we can, we can Flex a little bit. Now that's, that's the wrong idea. The goal here is not to say some words are more honest and truthful and other words don't have to be. All our words should be truthful, there's an ancient Jewish philosopher named Philo. He said in the eyes of sensible people much swearing is proof not a good faith but it's another words. He's observing the more you have to insist and qualify that you are oh that swearing to tell the truth. The more you have to do that the more likely it is you're not telling the truth because you're trying to put up a facade. Have you made a promise, have you signed a contract? Have you made a vow? The point is the Lord expects you to keep that word to honor that commitment are spoken, words are handshake, our signature call out to be as reliable and binding as a signature on a legal document are words. Our commitments are handshakes but had that same characters in quality. That's what we're supposed to do. The problem is people don't keep their word and that's not a new problem. It's a current problem just as it was for them. So it is for us. So what is the solution to this problem? What is the, what is the way out of this? What is God looking for? If the problem is, people don't keep their word, the solution is for us to be as good as our word be as good. As far as your word, the point of Jesus and James his vows what not be necessary for believers. So, our vows and Oaths wrong for believers in. Jesus said, don't even swear. Don't take a note that James Echo that same sentiment. So, is that saying that? We should never swear an oath? We should never make a bow. We should be careful about our promises. Well, I don't think that's necessarily the point. That we should never make a bow a promise and oh God used Hannah's about to bless his real with Samuel the great prophet and kingmaker David made vows to his friend. Jonathan Paul the Apostle took vows, we see that Max 18 + x 21 by the way. Paul's enemies also took about when Paul stirred things up by going to Jerusalem and preaching the gospel. And the Romans had to pull him out of the crowd before they they killed him. And there were several dozen, Jewish men who took a pledge, not to eat or drink until Paul was dead. I want to pick up that bat. What do you think? Obviously, he lived many more years. So they broke that vow. Let me tell you something. Did you know that the Lord himself makes miles, the Lord himself makes Bowser turn again in your Bible to book of Hebrews chapter 6? But I was interested to find that the Lord makes vows and of course, we know he keeps them.

Look at the Hebrews, Hebrews chapter 6, verse 13.

The Lord himself made a vow and it affects you. And me today, chapter 6 of Hebrews, listen, as I read verse 13, for when God made a promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no one greater he swore by himself saying Shirley blessing, I will bless you. And multiplying, I will multiply you and so after he had patiently endure, he obtained the promise for men indeed swear by the greater and a note for confirmation is for them, an end to all the spirit. That's God, determining the show more abundantly to The Heirs have promised the immutability or unchanged ability of its Council confirmed. It by a note that by two immutable for unchanging things in which it is impossible for God to lie. We might have strong consolation who four who have fled for Refuge to lay, hold of the Hope set before us. This hope we have is an anchor of the Soul both, sure and steadfast, which enters the presents behind the veil. What is it saying? That starts out by talking about Abraham, how God made a vow to Abraham, but it goes on to talk about all his descendants, all the children by faith of this man, Abraham, who, like, Abraham trust in God, men believed as promised, and then it was accounted for righteousness. What this is saying is that God swore an oath and who I got swear an oath to who would he swear to the fact is you hire him to himself? And can I tell you that gods were know that concerns concerns of our Salvation. Me, put it another way. God is still committed to saving by a wasp people that he promised and swore himself his honor to that his reputation. If God doesn't keep his promise to save, Sinners to repent and come to him, then God would lose lose his credibility and we know that can't happen. So here's the fact of the matter, God cares, so much, and is so able to save the lost people, undeserving people that he Gary, He personally on his honor, their salvation, maybe you wonder about salvation is it really that simple. Jesus Christ, the son of God, put on flesh, he died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. Is that really what there is to Salvation? Paul? The Apostle said that it's foolishness the preaching of the Gospel foolishness to those who perish, they overlooked it. But let me tell you, it's serious business and Tech. There's nothing great or no higher promise. God could make it but to save people who come to him, come to him for salvation. Believe that Christ, the son of God died on the cross for our sins and rose again from the dead. Because God personally guarantees it. I'll keep my word. I can save you, I can give you life Everlasting. I sent my own son to guarantee that I've given you the most precious resource. I have my only son and I personally validated it for on my own honor. You can trust God for salvation. Have you kissed a guy for salvation? He swears to get that to all who believe in him is for a note to provide that salvation. It's settled God's Own reputation is now depended upon it. Well let's look at some guidance here. We've said that vows are not necessarily wrong, they might be right, but what would be the guidance God's word would give. Let's summarize different way to learn Bowser voluntary numbers, 30 that we read you clearly. Got the idea that nobody has to make a vow, but if you keep it, you are expected. If you make it, you're expected to keep it. Listen to another quote from the book of the law Deuteronomy 23. If you abstain from balling, it should not be sent to you. In other words, there's no expectation to Bow. You don't have to buy how men and women, even miners, could make them, but nobody had to make them. They were voluntary, never required as a religious Duty among the Israelites. Secondly, vows were subject to higher authority. The juvenile daughter was responsible to her father, the wife to her husband, the point is the boughs. Don't necessarily overstep the authorities, God has placed in your life. They have veto power again as we said in the Did the father husband silence implies consent so if he did not exercise that promptly, he did not have the opportunity after that. But there is a difference to the authority placed in life. Finally, vows are binding, very loud and clear message. Even a poorly made or rashba was an obligation. Listen, again to Deuteronomy 23. When you make a bow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay, the pay it for the Lord, your God will surely required of you and it would be sin for you. Listen to another passage from The Book of Psalms, chapter 56 vows made to you. Lord are binding upon me. Another words. Keep your promise we mentioned earlier the man, Jeff to the judge who made a rash bow is he was facing combat with a powerful enemy and he was expected to keep that vow. When he kept it two, even unwisely entered vows, were commitments are still binding. Are we still supposed to keep that? We're still supposed to honor those commitments, whatever they are. The wise men saw him that explains the proper attitude about vows. What's look at one last passage turn back to the Book of Ecclesiastes, the wisdom of Solomon, and Ecclesiastes. It's right after Proverbs, and Psalms Psalms Proverbs Ecclesiastes. Listen, to the words of of Solomon who gives a wide perspective on this, whole matter of our relationship with God and our commitments before. God Ecclesiastes chapter 5, the wise men, give this Council chapter 5 of Ecclesiastes verse 1. Walk, prudently. When you go to the house of God and draw near to here rather than to give the sacrifice to fools for, they do not know that they do evil, do not be rash with your mouth, and let not your heart other anything. Hastily before God for God, is in heaven, and you are an earth. Therefore, let your Words Be Few, for a dream comes from much activity. In the pools, voice is known by his many words. When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it for. He has no pleasure in fools pay. What you have bowed better not to vow than to Bow and not pay going to be any more clear than that. Keep your promise and if you're not sure, you can keep it, don't make it in the first place. Seems pretty clear that boy just be careful about our vows are promises, are old because God expects us to keep them with Integrity. So that's why I think about this matter. What are some final questions? Let me offer to that occurred as that those thinking, a reflecting on where this fits into our lives, some questions that maybe we have. Answered so far. Here's the first question. Question number one, may Believers take olds. Sometimes Christians will say, what can I take an oath to testify? Can I take an oath of enlistment or accepted a commission? Can I do that? Is that violating James V or Jesus words about not doing that. But in my view it and by the way, some Christians feel that way through the centuries, some Christians quitting at Baptist felt that way in my do Believers may take those. Why do I say that? Because as we've been learning squaring should not add anything to our word. The point of Jesus centring on swearing is that paperwork Vanessa get putting up a false standard that they didn't intend to keep. So Jesus is saying your words should be good enough, but he's not necessarily saying, don't swear in that sense, don't take note, in that sense to be addressing the problem of false and deceptive oath-taking or making which was common among the Pharisees have their day. By the way, we're concerning and listening to an officer commissions when some soldiers were repenting along with the crowds that came to John the Baptist a couple soldiers, came to John the Baptist one day and then what should we do? And it's interesting that John the Baptist did not say break your oath of allegiance to Cesar or don't make a swearing to Caesar. He said, be content with your pay and don't exploit people pretty interesting admit. That was his counsel for what a Godly told you should do. By the way, when we can avoid swearing, oh, it's even in a pagan Society at and I take it that, that's the application for us. Let's look at a second question, perhaps the most troubling question for some of us. What if I made a vow and broke it will come back next week, we'll answer

What would you do if you made a promise you know, it's so easy to make a promise. Not so easy to keep a promise, right? It's a whole different matter to finish what we start. What if he bowed and can't pay Leviticus chapter? 27 gave our process. If somebody made a vow, what they would give to God and then they couldn't pay it. That there's a whole chapter that explains how they remediate that situation. So another words. Why even provided for the case where somebody made a vow? But was unable to follow through and keep that but understand that breaking a vow. Specially one made to God is serious, we must do, all we can to honor the commitment. I had a friend named Bill years ago who made a series of Investments and he realized that you got kind of caught up in in some really good Investments and making a bunch of money. They did not honor, the commitment is made to the Lord and he said, you know, it cost me pretty dearly, but I went back and made, right? I made restitution for all those things because I realized, I had reneged on a promise I'd made to the Lord. So when we can fix it, we should fix it when we can restore. We promised we should restore what we promised. So understand, Bowser binding but also understand failure to tell can be forgiven There is an unpardonable sin Jesus talked about but I don't believe this is it. In other words, we need to keep the commitment, make it right and whatever way we can buy, whatever means we can. But at the end of the day sometimes you can't back it up and make it right. And those cases we need to throw yourself on the mercy of God and ask his forgiveness and Grace. God, I made a promise to that person and I broke it. I signed his contract, I didn't honor it. I gave my word and I betrayed that asked for forgiveness, you know, Jesus died on the cross. For all our sins, including the sense of broken promises. If you broken promises, come to the one who keeps his promises and keeps his promises to you. That he offers a full and free forgiveness to Sinners who repent So make things right with God and anyone you hurt to the extent, you can do all that is when you're within your power, but at the end of the day. Stuff on God's mercy. Well this morning we looked at this matter, promises Odes and vows. What do we learn? We learned about the problem, which we already understand, people don't keep their word and the solution is for us to be as good as our word. If you have failed in some way, my intent is not to pile a burden on you. But to take the burden away, how do we take that burden away from our failures? Are my broken promises by coming to the one who always keeps his promises. As Solomon said about the Lord, not one word of all, his good promise has failed. Not one word. He keeps. His promises is one of those promises is that if we confess our sins, he is faithful. And just to forgive us, our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness without condition. Would you do that? Let's pray. Father in heaven. We thank you that you are the promise keeper and you love us even though we're so often promised Breakers. Father, thank you that you loved us with an everlasting love. Thank you that you sent your own son, Jesus to die to take away the price, the penalty for our sins. Father, may we come to you understanding that you promised took an oath to provide salvation for all who come to you by faith. Father, forgive us for our failures, including our failure, to keep our word. May, we be men and women, who mean what we say, and say what we mean, may we be people who speak truth in a very false and deceitful World. By the may we shine as Lights by being truthful and honest and clear. Help us, father, we all stumble in many ways, help us to be more like you strengthen us, refresh estrus tourist, forgive us for our sins as we can set them to you. We ask this in Jesus name and all God's people said, amen.
