Will stand with me and honor of God's word as we have our scripture reading.
Just a comment if you would like to read scripture, let me know.
I would love to have every single one of you read scripture at one point or another.
The problem is, I forget to ask anyone and then Sunday morning rolls around and I go.
I guess I'm doing it again.
So if you're sick of hearing my voice chapter 7 and the first 9 verses,
Now, concerning the things of which you wrote to me, it is good for a man, not to touch a woman, never the less because of sexual immorality, Let each man have his own wife and that each woman have her own husband, but the husband rendered to his wife that affection do her.
And likewise, also the wife to her husband, the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does and likewise.
The husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does do not deprive one another, except with consent, for a time that you made give yourselves to fasting and prayer and come together again.
So, that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment.
And as I myself, but each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner.
And another in that, but I say to the unmarried and to the Widow's, it is good for them if they remain.
As I am, but if they cannot exercise self-control at the Mary, Ford is better to marry than to burn with passion, may the Lord be blessed by the reading and hearing of his word.
This morning, please be seated.
Last week we ended chapter 6 of 1st Corinthians.
And that ended the first section of the book.
The Book of 1st Corinthians is in two parts, chapters 1 through 6 and then chapter 7 through 16 what was the dressing in the Corinthian Church?
A lack of unity.
And in order to address this problem, he's been six chapters explaining to them.
What they need to believe and practice.
He has laid the groundwork of their Doctrine and their practice and now he's going to address their disunity from chapter 7 through the end of the chapter Paul addresses this topic.
Sexual conduct.
Now we are going to deal with just the beginning 7 1 through 9 of sexual conduct and in this chapter is dealing with the confrontation and correction of disunity, right?
That's the problem in the Corinthian.
Church is just Unity dealing with this here in chapter 7 is Unity to a proper understanding of marriage now.
Next week, I'm going to read for you something from a commentary, so be in anticipation of next week and what it is going to detail is all of the ways that in Corinth they got marriage wrong, okay?
There was four different kinds of things that were considered marriage in Corinth.
OK.
Google wants them to understand.
I correct biblical view of marriage, that is what he does.
Chapter 7 and so, half of this chapter is going to deal with the conduct of married people, and half about Half deals with a conduct of those who are single.
So that's where we're going.
Let's pray, father.
We come to a topic that is so relevance in our world today and yet it is a topic that still makes some of us uncomfortable is still is challenging to address and so worried that you would give us Grace and strength that you would give us Clarity.
And if father we would have open-heart eager to understand the truth of your word and I pray that I would be simply your true and instrument to communicate the truth of your word to your people.
Thank you, father.
In Jesus name.
Amen.
One of the key words that you're going to notice in the rest of the book is what I should say.
Two words to keyword the understanding, what's taking place in the rest of the book and those two key words are now concerning.
Now concerning as previously noted, Paul had written a letter to the Corinthians that we don't have.
Okay.
Do that was a letter that he wrote that we don't have an apparently, they responded to Paul and they said, hey what about?
And they had a bunch of questions.
Okay, whenever Paul says now concerning in this, the rest of the book, He's introducing a new topic, he's answering a question that they had that.
So now concerning is answering that question here.
He says now concerning the things of which you wrote to me, it's good for a man, not to touch a woman.
They asked him a question about sex and sexuality with Marriage and not being married.
It just said, what's going on with this kind of stuff.
What are we do?
Their culture was very hyper sexualized.
There was a lot of amorality and they said okay we're getting saved coming to drive.
Now what what are we do?
Okay.
And so is that is what Paul is addressing.
This is going to come up later this morning, it's going to come up several times as we go on.
Paul has been dealing with sexual immorality in the Corinthian Church.
If you were here, you'll remember if you're not let me refresh.
You and chapter 5, he said there was a man in the Corinthian Church who was in a sexual relationship with his stepmother.
And Paul said guys, even unbelievers aren't doing this.
What's going on?
So he has a dress that he's corrected.
That threw the question naturally comes out.
Okay.
They were getting it wrong.
How do they get it, right?
And that's where we're going today.
They were confused and he's a crack correcting them.
So having addressed improper sexuality, home, now addresses, proper sexuality, a proper understanding of sexuality requires Clarity into areas of conduct, to areas of conduct, as Clarity has gained, and sexuality is understood and rightly it can be rightly and defended, do we live in a culture that is sexually confused.
Yes.
How do we teach them the truth?
Well, with the word of God, some people are going to try to tell you how God's word doesn't talk about any of that stuff.
They are lying gods were very clearly addresses, sex and sexuality.
And that's why we're talking about it today.
When we know the truth about sexuality, were free to serve the Lord with boldness, that we're going to look at the first is sexuality and marriage, sexuality and marriage.
If you want a quick easy, illustration of the difference between scripture and culture, you don't have to look any farther than just topic of sexuality.
Why do I say that?
Because scripture is clear.
Right to do things, God's way.
We have sex for marriage.
That we save it for marriage.
That is God's design after marriage.
Sex has to be a regular part of married life, that's what scripture reveals.
What are young people to have sex before?
They're married because after marriage, they won't get any, isn't that what our culture says?
Give me all you can before you get married, because once you get married football, it's all downhill from there, buddy.
That's what their conditioning are young people to believe.
God says, you want to have the best sex of your life, wait, till you get married.
That's what he says and that's what scripture teaches when scripture and culture Collide, it is us as Christians who are responsible to uphold the truth of scripture.
Every time we capitulate to the culture, we undermine the reality and the reliability of scripture.
With that.
Thought in mind, it is essential to understand.
What does Scripture teach about sexuality and marriage until as we seek to engage our culture, with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we have to understand what it teaches about these things that we're dealing with and our culture.
And so as we examine the proper role of sexuality in marriage, when they chew considerations consideration number one,
Here Comes consider the place.
Consider the place, there is a proper place for sexual expression and that place is within the Covenant, bonds of biblical marriage outside of a Biblical marriage.
There are to be no sexual relationships.
Look at verse 1 of chapter 7. Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me, it is good for a man, not to touch a woman.
We've already mentioned this but let me hit it again quickly.
