Introduction:

Good afternoon, my name is Pastor James Grandinetti. I am the associate Pastor here at Sharon Baptist Church.
On behalf of our Senior Pastor, Pastor David Carroll and our Day School Director Mrs. Sarah Bailey, I would like to thank you for coming and being a part of this graduation service for Sharon Baptist Day School. What a tremendous blessing your children have been to us! Thank you for allowing us to have a small part in their education and life.
We are certainly excited for these ____ children that are going to be graduating this afternoon and we look forward to continuing to minister to you and your family.
I would like to take a few moments this morning and encourage you from the Word of God. If you would like and are able I would ask you to take the pew Bible in front of you and turn to page ______.
We will be looking at just five verses from the book of II Timothy chapter number 1.
I would like for you to think about this thought as we read these verses Unfeigned Faith.
Lets stand and give honor for the reading of God’s Word as is our custom here at Sharon Baptist Church.
Read II Timothy 1:1-5
Let’s Pray
Paul here is writing to His Son in the faith, a young preacher by the name of Timothy. It is interesting and important for us to understand that this young man Timothy would be following in Paul’s footsteps. Taking the baton if you will as Paul would shortly end up martyred for His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Our very presence here today at Sharon Baptist Church is a testimony to the faithful passing on of the Gospel message from Paul to Timothy and so on.
But I want you to notice the word that is used here. This is not a word we would typically use today in our modern vernacular. But notice the description that is given concerning young Timothy.
Paul says that Timothy had ‘Unfeigned Faith’
I. Timothy’s Unfeigned Faith
A. Unfeigned-Defined
That word unfeigned means the opposite of ‘fake’
There is so much in this world today that we can see that is fake.
My wife like caffeine free Pepsi. But there is a fake knock-off of Pepsi called ‘’ but it is not the same it is fake.
What about people we would call ‘fake’ people today? There are plenty of fake people, just turn on the TV or Youtube and you can see alot of people that are fake.
When I look up at these children, that go to Sharon Baptist Day School, I notice that they certainly are anything but fake.
It use to be before we built the new administrative offices and pastoral studies addition that Pastor Carroll’s office was right as you come into the SB Day School entrance. And He knew first hand that these kids were not ‘fake’. If they were unhappy, they didn’t hold anything back! If they dirtied their diaper, He knew it.
But what is particularly wonderful about this passage is that young Timothy was not just real, but the Bible says He had real or genuine ‘Faith.’
Timothy’s faith was not in the government, or in the economy or in just Paul Himself. Timothy’s genuine faith (Belief, Trust) was in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Our desire here at Sharon Baptist Church is to share the love of Jesus Christ and teach these children about the God who loves them and died on a cross for them so that they could go to Heaven one day!
And many of your children express the beginnings of unfeigned or genuine faith.
Here shortly you are going to hear them recite verses from God’s Word. Sing songs about the wonderful love of our Savior and show off their skills in reading and math! This I assure you is genuine its unfeigned, its real.
But I want you notice something else very quickly and then we will be done. Look at verse 5 again.
The Bible says, When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.”
II. Timothy’s Families Unfeigned Faith
Paul is expressing here first that Timothy has a genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He died for Him on the cross, paying the penalty for His sin. B
But then Paul expresses that before Timothy had faith, His parents and his grandparents had unfeigned Faith!
We are definitely privileged to be able to invest our time and efforts in the education and spiritual well being of these precious children.
But as good as our teachers are and as good as you children learn there is nothing that can really replace God’s ordained plan of instruction in the home.
The Bible says that this unfeigned genuine faith dwelt in Lois, Timothy’s grandmother, and Eunice Timothy’s mother first.
The language is so rich because the Bible says it ‘dwelt’ in them. That means this it was abiding, it was present there on a permanent basis. This was no fleeting fair-weather kind of faith. This was an abiding genuine faith. One that forever affected the life of Timothy.
You see there is coming a day when _________childs name, Childs Name Childs Name Childs Name precious children are going to step out into this world should the Lord tarry and they are going to need to have an unfeigned faith like Timothy.
But it is sad to say that many will not survive the onslaught of this world without seeing this unfeigned faith exampled, modeled and taught in the home first.
I would like to encourage you this morning and exhort you. Do you have a real visible exampled faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?
First of all we understand that without faith it is
I. Impossible to please God without unfeigned faith.
The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”
This matter of faith (belief, trust) in the Lord Jesus Christ is God’s chosen method of Salvation. Not church membership, not going about doing good, but faith in the Lord Jesus’ Christ.
II. Impossible to go to Heaven without unfeigned faith.
The Bible again clearly says in Ephesians 5:8,9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
III. Impossible to influence your child properly without unfeigned faith.
How can I have this powerful unfeigned genuine faith?
Well it is only possible because of what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for you and for me.
You see the Bible says that there was time when God the Father sent God the Son to this earth to pay for the sin debt of all mankind. That treasured verse says it all in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
To provide a way of Salvation so that you and I can be reconciled back to Him.
This happened some 2000 years ago when Jesus was born in a manger in Bethlehem, He lived 33 2/2 years and died being nailed to cross and our sins being placed upon Him. “For he [God the Father] hath made him [God the Son] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” II Corinthians 5:21
The Bible tells us that He died, was buried and rose again.
He then gave the Apostles the mission of telling the world about this wonderful Salvation provided because of the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The only thing is, that you and I must choose to receive Jesus Christ as our Savior.
You might ask how can I know that Heaven is Home, that I am forgiven of my sin and that I will have unfeigned unshakable faith to example to my child?
By:
Admit that you have sinned, (done wrong) and broken God’s Holy Law.
Believe that God did send His Son, that He did die on a cross shedding His precious blood because of your awful sin and that He was buried and came up out of the grave and is seated at the right hand of God the father in Heaven. This is God Himself that bled and died for you to pay for your sin debt.
Confess to God yourself your desire to receive Him and be saved.
So, as we close here I want you to think about this unfeigned powerful faith that was exampled and modeled in the home; affecting Timothy for his entire life.
And I would desire you too to be possessors of not only Heaven and Jesus Christ but also a home where unfeigned faith is modeled as well.
Let’s Pray.
