LESS STRESS LIFE: TRUSTING GOD Romans 15:13 INTRODUCTION Read verse: Filled with joy and peace AS YOU TRUST in Him! Less stress = joy and peace - last week we looked at Peace, the peace that only Jesus can give. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you…” John 14:27. Another key to a Less Stressed Life is trusting in Christ, not only will you have peace but a life lled with joy! T.S. Trust = faith How do we trust, or how do we have faith? 1ST - TRUST IN JESUS FOR SALVATION ROMANS 10:8–13 (NIV84) 8 BUT WHAT DOES IT SAY? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU; IT IS IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART,” THAT IS, THE WORD OF FAITH WE ARE PROCLAIMING: 9 THAT IF YOU CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH, “JESUS IS LORD,” AND BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, YOU WILL BE SAVED. 10 FOR IT IS WITH YOUR HEART THAT YOU BELIEVE AND ARE JUSTIFIED, AND IT IS WITH YOUR MOUTH THAT YOU CONFESS AND ARE SAVED. 11 AS THE SCRIPTURE SAYS, “ANYONE WHO TRUSTS IN HIM WILL NEVER BE PUT TO SHAME.” 12 FOR THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JEW AND GENTILE—THE SAME LORD IS LORD OF ALL AND RICHLY BLESSES ALL WHO CALL ON HIM, 13 FOR, “EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.” T.S. Once you are saved the next step is to start to walk with Jesus 2ND - WALKING WITH JESUS BY FAITH When we turn from our sins, believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are baptized, showing our commitment to Jesus. Paul writes to the Believers in Rome this: ti fi H … ROMANS 6:4 (ESV) “WE WERE BURIED THEREFORE WITH HIM BY BAPTISM INTO DEATH, IN ORDER THAT, JUST AS CHRIST WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD BY THE GLORY OF THE FATHER, WE TOO MIGHT WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE.” In the NIV it is translated “we too may live a new life” Walking and living is the same thing…When we trust in Jesus for our salvation, then we start to walk with Him by faith, or by trusting Him in our daily lives. “WALK” many times in scripture stands for the whole manner of a person’s life and conduct, and to the attitude which God takes up towards them, so that God can say: ‘If you … walk contrary to me, then I also will walk contrary to you’ (Lv. 26:23–24). Fitzsimmonds, F. S. (1996). Walk. In D. R. W. Wood, I. H. Marshall, A. R. Millard, J. I. Packer, & D. J. Wiseman (Eds.), New Bible dic onary (3rd ed., p. 1228). Leicester, England; Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press. When Jesus called His disciples to follow Him, they literally stopped what they were doing and started walking with Him daily. Listening to His Word (BIBLE), talking with Him (PRAYING), applying what He taught to their lives (OBEDIENCE). They were walking a new life in Christ. 3RD - WALKING BY FAITH PLEASES GOD Faith is necessary to please God in our walk, living by faith means that you submit to the will of God over the long haul. In the scriptures there are some awesome examples of people that walked with God…one is Enoch… ILLUS: ENOC GENESIS 5:18–24 (NIV84) 18 WHEN JARED HAD LIVED 162 YEARS, HE BECAME THE FATHER OF ENOCH. 19 AND AFTER HE BECAME THE FATHER OF ENOCH, JARED LIVED 800 YEARS AND HAD OTHER SONS AND DAUGHTERS. 20 ALTOGETHER, JARED LIVED 962 YEARS, AND THEN HE DIED. 21 WHEN ENOCH HAD LIVED 65 YEARS, HE BECAME THE FATHER OF M E T H U S E L A H . 2 2 A N D A F T E R H E B E C A M E T H E FAT H E R O F METHUSELAH, ENOCH WALKED WITH GOD 300 YEARS AND HAD OTHER SONS AND DAUGHTERS. 23 ALTOGETHER, ENOCH LIVED 365 YEARS. 24 ENOCH WALKED WITH GOD; THEN HE WAS NO MORE, BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM AWAY. Hebrews 11:5–6 (NIV84 BY FAITH ENOCH WAS TAKEN FROM THIS LIFE, SO THAT HE DID NOT EXPERIENCE DEATH; HE COULD NOT BE FOUND, BECAUSE GOD HAD TAKEN HIM AWAY. FOR BEFORE HE WAS TAKEN, HE WAS COMMENDED AS ONE WHO PLEASED GOD. 6 AND WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD, BECAUSE ANYONE WHO COMES TO HIM MUST BELIEVE THAT HE EXISTS AND THAT HE REWARDS THOSE WHO EARNESTLY SEEK HIM. 5 For 300 years Enoch walked with God! Walking by faith means giving up what you want because you would rather have what God wants. Too many of us don’t want to walk with the Lord, we want to walk with ourselves and our friends…that is to live to please ourselves and others. But that doesn’t require faith. Living by faith means I submit my will to God’s will. I submit myself to God. What gave Enoch the strength to go 300 years? That is a long time to be walking with God. The answer is in JUDE 14-15. JUDE 14–15 (NIV84) 14 ENOCH, THE SEVENTH FROM ADAM, PROPHESIED ABOUT THESE MEN: “SEE, THE LORD IS COMING WITH THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF HIS HOLY ONES 15 TO JUDGE EVERYONE, AND TO CONVICT ALL THE UNGODLY OF ALL THE UNGODLY ACTS THEY HAVE DONE IN THE UNGODLY WAY, AND OF ALL THE HARSH WORDS UNGODLY SINNERS HAVE SPOKEN AGAINST HIM.” Enoch looked ahead as a prophet and saw the coming of the Lord! And because he saw that he proclaimed the coming of the Lord and walked with God! So because Enoch saw the future he could live in the present by faith. We have God’s word that proclaims the future too! We can walk by faith too, for the long haul! CONCLUSION Do you want a LESS STRESS LIFE? Then walk with the Lord by faith every day! The Scripture has this warning about not walking with Him… 1 John 1:6–7 (NIV84 ) WE CLAIM TO HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM YET WALK IN THE DARKNESS, WE LIE AND DO NOT LIVE BY THE TRUTH. 7 BUT IF WE WALK IN THE LIGHT, AS HE IS IN THE LIGHT, WE HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH ONE ANOTHER, AND THE BLOOD OF JESUS, HIS SON, PURIFIES US FROM ALL SIN. ) 6 IF Are you walking DAILY with the lord by faith?
