Barriers to Encouragement
Barriers to Encouragement
Jealousy: an intense interest for another’s honour or prosperity. It is envy and hatred of others.
Gossip: a report (often malicious) about the behavior of other people; especially one that is spoken in low tones and whispers.
The Goal of Encouragement

Encouragement: Giving someone confidence and courage to do something.
Barnabas is translated Son of Encouragement
What was Barnabas encouraging people to do?
14 They continued their journey from Perga and reached Antioch in Pisidia. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.
15 After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any message of encouragement for the people, you can speak.”
16 Then Paul stood up and motioned with his hand and said: “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen!

36 For David, after serving his own generation in God’s plan, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and decayed.
37 But the One God raised up did not decay.
38 Therefore, let it be known to you, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you,
39 and everyone who believes in Him is justified from everything that you could not be justified from through the law of Moses.
They continue to encourage them. This encouragement is for them to continue in the grace of God
42 As they were leaving, the people begged that these matters be presented to them the following Sabbath.
43 After the synagogue had been dismissed, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking with them and persuading them to continue in the grace of God.
Another example of them encouraging
21 After they had evangelized that town and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch,
22 strengthening the disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith and by telling them, “It is necessary to pass through many troubles on our way into the kingdom of God.”

1 Therefore, when we could no longer stand it, we thought it was better to be left alone in Athens.
2 And we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s coworker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you concerning your faith,
3 so that no one will be shaken by these persecutions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.
4 In fact, when we were with you, we told you previously that we were going to suffer persecution, and as you know, it happened.
5 For this reason, when I could no longer stand it, I also sent him to find out about your faith, fearing that the tempter had tempted you and that our labor might be for nothing.
6 But now Timothy has come to us from you and brought us good news about your faith and love and reported that you always have good memories of us, wanting to see us, as we also want to see you.
7 Therefore, brothers, in all our distress and persecution, we were encouraged about you through your faith.
8 For now we live, if you stand firm in the Lord.
9 How can we thank God for you in return for all the joy we experience before our God because of you,
10 as we pray very earnestly night and day to see you face to face and to complete what is lacking in your faith?

1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses:
2 “Tell the Israelites to turn back and camp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you must camp in front of Baal-zephon, facing it by the sea.
3 Pharaoh will say of the Israelites: They are wandering around the land in confusion; the wilderness has boxed them in.
4 I will harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. Then I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh.” So the Israelites did this.
5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about the people and said: “What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us.”
6 So he got his chariot ready and took his troops with him;
7 he took 600 of the best chariots and all the rest of the chariots of Egypt, with officers in each one.
8 The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the Israelites, who were going out triumphantly.
9 The Egyptians—all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, his horsemen, and his army—chased after them and caught up with them as they camped by the sea beside Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.
10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptians coming after them. Then the Israelites were terrified and cried out to the Lord for help.
11 They said to Moses: “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you took us to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
12 Isn’t this what we told you in Egypt: Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
13 But Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation He will provide for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again.
14 The Lord will fight for you; you must be quiet.”
