(6) Prophecy: GOD GIVES YOU A WORD FOR YOUR FELLOW BELIEVER TO BE ENCOURAGED TOWARDS CHRIST.

to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
SPIRIT’S IS A KEY WORD IN THIS PASSAGE
Some people tend to believe that discernment means a discernment of situations.
This seems harmless…except for when the Spirit leads you in another direction…that would make the one situation seem outisde of the Will of God.
Discerning of Spirits helps you identify spiritual consequences based on your personality and shortcomings.

A COUPLE OF COOL SCENARIOS THAT THIS CONVICTION COMES INTO PLAY

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
The writer of Hebrews says that you can go beyond basic elementary principles of scripture when you have the gift of discerning of Spirits in your life.
The gospel of forgiveness is good: BUT GOD IS CALLING US TO A LIFESTYLE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
A basic understanding of scripture stays focused on the forgiveness of CHRIST....but as you grow in your knowledge and discernment you will find that Jesus doesn’t just want to forgive you…he wants to bring you to a place of freedom.

Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things.
As you discern what the SPirit is speaking to you…He will call you out of things that aren’t necesarily sin.
Some of these things will be closer to sin than others.
THESE ARE CALLED CONVICTIONS
CONVICTIONS ARE COMMITMENTS YOU MAKE TO GOD BECAUSE YOU LOVE HIM
MY WIFE AND I HAVE COMMITTED TO NOT DRINKING ALCOHOL AS A COMMITMENT OR CONVICTION TO THE GOD WE LOVE.
THIS IS NOT BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT DRINKING ALCOHOL IN MODERATION IS NECESSARILY A SIN
IT IS BECAUSE WE FEEL IT IS AN AREA THAT GOD IS ASKING US TO COMMIT BEYOND WHATS REQUIRED.
THIS IS WHAT IT’S LIKE TO LIVE FOR RELATIONSHIP AND NOT JUST FOR RULES.

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
There are different opinions but many people believe that this was a group of 120 people speaking every nation of the people in the city.
These were not educated people…they were gifted with ability they didn’t have to speak languages they didn’t know.

The gift of tongues is also commonly practiced through the means of a prayer language.
Paul talks about speaking in the tongues of angels.
He also talks about praying in tongues daily.
THIS IS WHEN WE SPEAK THE WORDS THE SPIRIT PUTS IN OUR MINDS DURING PRAYER.
This may or may not be an actual language.
THE ENEMY HAS NO POWER TO STOP WHAT YOU PRAY IN TONGUES
HE CAN HINDER OUR PRAYERS WITH UNDERSTANDING.
DANIEL…HE CAN’T HINDER YOUR PRAYERS IN THE SPIRIT....BECAUSE HE CAN’T STOP THE HS
MESSAGES IN TONGUES IN CORPORATE SETTINGS.
There are times that messages in tongues have been given during services.
This only happens when God has an interpretation to be given.
This should only be done when you KNOW THAT GOD IS TELLING YOU TO
To just yell out in tongues all the time would cause confusion.

This gift is so simple…but also so beautiful
It shows us the character of our God
He doesn’t want us to be confused or scared about what He is doing in our lives.
He has called us to receive the gift of tongues…but he also wants us to know what our tongues are saying.
