2 Timothy 1:1–7 (NASB95)

Timothy Charged to Guard His Trust

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus,

2 To Timothy, my beloved son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day,

4 longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy.

5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.

6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

This phrasing in Verse 6 does not mean that the flame of had GONE OUT in Timothy’s life, but that it needed to have fresh fuel frequently! To keep it alit we have to STIR THE COALS sometimes - Keep up the Heat “The phrase rekindle the gift of God did not mean that Timothy had “let the fire go out.” It was a call to action lest sluggishness set in.”

God is a CONSUMING FIRE and as He Uses Us there are benefits to being in the FIRE!

There is No Greater Honor for the teacher than for the student, or child to walk in the path that has been taught - But EVEN MORE SO FOR THE PATHWAYS Of Righteousness!

We can try all day long to blame the condition of the world on the opposing political party or sliding national morals - but in the end much of the responsibility for the world has to be laid at the feet of Christians who live a nominal, shallow faith and have no impact on the world around them. I urge you like Paul urged Timothy - KINDLE THE FLAME OF GOD IN YOU!! BURN FOR THE LORD

The best way to walk in the faith is to remind ourselves to rekindle / keep fresh the flame of faith in us. That is the gift of God - the Indwelling Spirit inside each of us.

MOTHERS, GRANDMOTHERS, KINDLE ANEW THE GIFT of the Spirit in you, then your family, and those around you.

We have no idea where our children will go, how brightly they will burn for Jesus, who they will impact, and what demonic influences they will scald and burn with the fire of God!!

I have Students like TIMOTHY - That i can name who are walking a righteous life - daily stirring up the fire inside in order to live and influence for the LORD!!

For Jessica and I - Our true spiritual legacy is in our three lovely daughters who will hopefully take the faith of our home —> to their lives, careers, homes and eventually their own children to KEEP THE FLAME burning brightly as part of the next generation with their eyes fixed on Jesus.

Our daughters love to read and I pray that one of their favorite childhood memories is reading with Mom or Dad at night.
