Isaiah 66:22–23 NKJV
22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord, “So shall your descendants and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.
In the earth made new, all the saved will enjoy a Sabbath day of worship. If this is so, then shouldn’t we be celebrating the Sabbath on this side of eternity, here on this earth?

What Day is the Sabbath?

Genesis 2:1–3 NKJV
1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
From the very beginning of this world’s history, from the moment it came forth fresh from the Creator’s hand, Sabbath has been set aside (sanctified) for special fellowship with our Creator, and blessed for the benefit of all creation.
One of two institutions [marriage is the other one] we bring from the Garden of Eden, it was given to all humankind. Adam and Eve’s first day on this new planet was spent resting in the finished work of God. Isn’t it interesting to note that both institutions are under attack today?
Exodus 20:8–11 NKJV
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
There are many who propose that the Sabbath is no longer Saturday. They refer to it as the Jewish Sabbath. However, you will not find one passage in the Bible that transfers the blessing of God from the Sabbath to any other day in Scripture. A text would have to say that God blessed another day, sanctified another day, and rested on this other day… and it just isn’t there!
In fact, listen to what Jesus said concerning the Sabbath.
Mark 2:27–28 ISV
27 Then he told them, “The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
Jesus clearly taught, God did not create humanity to keep the Sabbath, as in this would be obligatory. Rather, God made the Sabbath as a gift for humanity… not just for Jews or Jewish people, but for all people!

How Does God want us to Celebrate the Sabbath?

Nehemiah 13:15–19 NKJV
15 In those days I saw people in Judah treading wine presses on the Sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and loading donkeys with wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. And I warned them about the day on which they were selling provisions. 16 Men of Tyre dwelt there also, who brought in fish and all kinds of goods, and sold them on the Sabbath to the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem. 17 Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said to them, “What evil thing is this that you do, by which you profane the Sabbath day? 18 Did not your fathers do thus, and did not our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? Yet you bring added wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.” 19 So it was, at the gates of Jerusalem, as it began to be dark before the Sabbath, that I commanded the gates to be shut, and charged that they must not be opened till after the Sabbath. Then I posted some of my servants at the gates, so that no burdens would be brought in on the Sabbath day.
Exodus 16:23 NKJV
23 Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’ ”
Isaiah 58:13–14 NKJV
13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day of the Lord honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, 14 Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord; And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Celebration
The Sabbaths needs to be a day of celebration for children and not a drudgery.
Luke 4:16 NKJV
16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
It was Jesus’s custom to go the synagogue on the Sabbath day. Doesn’t stand to reason that as followers of Jesus, we ought to follow his example?

How did Jesus Celebrate the Sabbath?

He went to the synagoge to worship God and enjoy the fellowship of others.
He especially loved to alleviate the suffering of people on the Sabbath.
He visited people in prison and encoraged them.
He loved to spend time in nature.
God gave us one day where would could focus on others rather than ourselves. When we do so, focus on the needs and fulfillment of others we in turn will experience fulfillment and joy.

Did the Sabbath Change after the Death and Resurrection of Jesus?

Luke 23:52–56 NKJV
52 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before. 54 That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near. 55 And the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
Luke 24:1–3 NKJV
1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

Hebrews 4:4–9 NIV
4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.” 5 And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.” 6 Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, 7 God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. 9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;
Acts 17:2 NKJV
2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

What is the Purpose of the Sabbath?

Deuteronomy 5:12–13 NKJV
12 ‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
Ezekiel 20:12 NKJV
12 Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.
Notice that the Sabbath is a sign or a seal between God and those who desire to be known as his people.
Ezekiel 20:20 NKJV
20 hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.’
The Sabbath is a sign of loyalty that indicates that the Lord is our God and no other!
Revelation 7:1–3 NKJV
1 After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3 saying, “Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.”
Seal of God
Isaiah 8:16 NKJV
16 Bind up the testimony, Seal the law among my disciples.
The role of the Helper otherwise known as the Holy Spirit, is to aid us in living Holy lives, help us to be loyal to the commandments of God. Men and woman, boys and girls will give the final message of God’s love under the convicting irresistable power of the Holy Spirit. It will not be as it is today, were people walk away undecided when they hear the truth. No, under the power of the Latter Rain, the final outpouring of the Holy Spirit, every person will make a decision for or agaisnt the love of God. This will lead to the declaration from heaven, fearful for some, but bringing abundant joy for others.
Revelation 22:11 NKJV
11 He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”
Hebrews 10:15–16 NKJV
15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”
The seal of God will determine who has rejected selfishness and deliberate sin, thus pledging their allegiance to the Creator, thus rejecting the authority of the enemy. Who will we choose? Whose side will we pledge our allegiance to? The Creator’s side or the created’s side?
