Blessed Are Those Who Hunger & Thirst for Righteousness

FOCUS

This morning we continue on in this journey through the beatitudes. Of course the goal is they begin a fresh journey through us :-) … hearing & heeding are always going to be two different things. While we can heed what we haven’t heard, we can hear something without ever heeding it. Listening to & doing what God says is how our lives become what He intends them to be.

Again & again, the Bible addresses its promises to the hungry. Spiritual hunger is not material hunger. Christians are not supposed to be like pagans, engrossed in the pursuit of possessions; We are to seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness. This fourth Beatitude deals with our appetite for the things of God.

Those Who Hunger & Thirst for Righteousness …

1. are those who know it’s even more important than food & water.

Just as our bodies need food & water in order to live, our soul needs righteousness.

Matthew 5:6a (Matthew 6:33 / Romans 4:5)

2. find Christ who is our righteousness.

A diet of righteousness fills & satisfies us bringing health & wholeness to our soul.

Matthew 5:6b Romans 9:30-10:4 & Philippians 3:8-10 2 Peter 1:1

Making It Real

1] How real has been & is your hunger & thirst for righteousness with & from God?

2] Is Christ Himself the source of all the righteousness you know & show?

Action Step

Prayerfully revisit these two points before going to bed tonight. Especially

spend time reading, pondering & embracing Philippians 3:8-10.
