There is nothing more life changing than the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

I was reading an article by John Davidson entitled Spirit filled and wrong.
Isaiah 28:10 ESV
10 For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.”

The History of the Holy Spirit

The Existence of the Spirit

Genesis 1:1–2 ESV
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
The Spirit of God
++Existed
++Hovering over the waters
Genesis 1:2 ESV
2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
To hover as motion
++To flutter
++To shake
++To move

The Spirit was Present

Deuteronomy 32:11 ESV
11 Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, catching them, bearing them on its pinions,
To Hover as a protection
++From airborne attacks
Ephesians 6:12 ESV
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
2 Corinthians 10:4 ESV
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
To Hover as a protection
From airborne attacks
++From crippling falls

The description of the earth was unchanged

Genesis 1:2 ESV
2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

The earth was was formless and empty

Though the Spirit in creation
++Was present
++Was moving

Darkness prevailed

The Spirit did not
++Remove the darkness
++Fill the emptiness
Though the eagle cares for the nest
++Falling from the nest is necessary
++It is the only way to fly
When you are eagle falling is apart of life.

Why didn’t the Spirit alone bring order?

God is trying to tell us something

We have been promised God’s Power

Acts 1:8 ESV
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 2:39 ESV
39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

God’s Spirit is still hovering

We need His power
++To be effective
++To be anointed
++To be a witness
While mankind seeks for spiritual power we may be missing out on the source of that power.

God’s Power Flows Though His Word

Genesis 1:3–4 ESV
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.
Spiritual power apart from the word
++Fuel pride and self rule
1 Timothy 3:1–2 ESV
1 The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
1 Timothy 3:6 ESV
6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.
Spiritual power apart from the word
++Fuel pride and self rule
++Shifts confidence to man’s wisdom
++Shifts from power God
++Is only potential power
1 Corinthians 2:4–6 ESV
4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.
Potential power
++Is Power on hold
++Unreleased Power
Matthew 24:35 ESV
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

The Word of God Releases Power

The proclamation of the Gospel
++Releases Salvation
Romans 1:16 ESV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Matthew 24:14 ESV
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Romans 10:8 ESV
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);
The proclamation of the Gospel
Releases Salvation
++Empowers belief
Romans 10:14 ESV
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
The proclamation of the Gospel
Releases Salvation
Empowers belief
++Produces faith
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
His Spirit Empowers the Word
++Gives it life
++Makes it alive in us
2 Corinthians 3:6 ESV
6 who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
His Word Activates the Spirit
++Giving it purpose
++Providing a outlet
Mark 16:20 ESV
20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.
