As we enter the second part of our series on the Transfiguration, we come across a meeting between God and the prophet Elijah. One might expect God to present himself as he did to Moses, but instead of seeing a God who demonstrates that he is above and beyond us and our comprehension even as he exercises his grace, we see here parallel-but-different aspects of him: his compassion, his sovereignty and his righteousness. We see in this passage that far from removing himself from us because of his greatness and our lowliness, God is instead near to us, helping and guiding us even in our struggles, as he brings about his good plans.
