!!!!!! Introduction
What we did last Sunday:  tithing is a standard for God’s children to give by.
1.       8We are to set aside a tenth of all our income.
That belongs to the Lord.
2.       8By doing this we will learn to revere the LORD our God always.
3.       8 Tithes are not always what we earn in cattle, produce or stock, but it includes the silver, the money and the income of our wages.
4.       8By bringing the tithes into the house of God we provide for the work of the Church as God intended.
The church is not a club where we pay our dues in order to be buried one day.
By bringing our tithes we provide for the work of the Church.
Tithes are not a gift to God.
It is our duty.
10% of our income belongs to God, the rightful owner of the universe.
5.
8By giving our tithes we allow for the care of widows, the fatherless, Evangelism and Mission.
6.       8By giving our tithes we can expect God’s blessing.
The Lord says: “so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.”
By withholding our tithes, we steal from God, we rob God.
We pointed out that the Greek text in Mark 12 about the widow was the fact that Jesus was interested in /how/ the people put their money in the treasury.
Explain the need in the Jerusalem church:
For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
\\ They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them.
For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings.
Romans 15:26-27

On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. 1 Corinthians 16:2
We need to go to 2Corinthians 8-9 to find a few principles:
!!! 8 Because Christ gave Himself
I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others.
\\ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:8-9
8 Therefore:
And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will. 2 Corinthians 8:5
!!! 8 Generosity
Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.
For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, 8 and even beyond their ability.
2 Corinthians 8:2-3
8 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.
2 Corinthians 8:12
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 2 Corinthians 9:6
You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:11
!!! 8 According to our means
Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality.
\\ At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need.
8 Then there will be equality, as it is written: “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little.”
2 Corinthians 8:13-15
The principle that applied in the desert:
And when they measured it by the omer, he who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little.
Each one gathered as much as he needed.
Exodus 16:18
!!! 8 Giving cheerfully
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:7-8
!!! 8 Giving is a grace
But just as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us a—see that you also excel in this grace of giving. 2 Corinthians 8:7
!!! 8 Giving is a test of our love
I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. 2 Corinthians 8:8
!!! 8 Giving is an act of obedience
Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 2 Corinthians 9:13
