The Cross
1 Corinthians 2:1–2 NKJV
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
The Cross is a celebrated symbol that is often adorned as jewellery. It’s especially prominent on famous people who profess Christianity or a form of Christianity. It is seen on windows, steeples of churches, Bible covers, you name it. But the cross was not perceived in this manner. In the time of Paul...
1 Corinthians 1:18 NKJV
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

How is the Cross the Power of God?

John 12:31–33 NKJV
31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” 33 This He said, signifying by what death He would die.
Summarize Numbers 21
Numbers 21:8 NKJV
8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.”
Serpent 2
Galatians 3:13 NKJV
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),

What Does the Cross Reveal?

John 8:44 NKJV
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
Remeber that to take the throne of God, Lucifer would have to kill God. That is what he had in his heart.
Isaiah 14:12–14 NKJV
12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’
Matthew 21:33–38 NKJV
33 “Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country. 34 Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. 35 And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. 37 Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’

The Cross Reveals the Heart of the Devil

Isaiah 53:4–6 NKJV
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

The Cross Reveals the Heart of Jesus

Romans 4:25 NKJV
25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
2 Corinthians 5:18–21 NKJV
18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
John 16:27 NKJV
27 for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.
This is the only instance in Scripture that associates God with phileo. The Father longs for reciprocal love. The greatest form of reciprocal love is that we appreciate the gift of His son, Jesus Christ.

The Cross Reveals the Father’s Heart

Galatians 3:13 NKJV
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),
John 3:16 AMP
16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
The Cross is God’s love letter to us, the ultimate gift that heaven could ever bestow on any of his creations.
