Do you ever feel Like Eugene?

You keep praying but the pony never comes.

Perhaps, you feel like this: I’ve got a pile of prayers - but I’m little light when it comes to answers.

I think most of us at some time or another ask ourselves: Do my prayers really matter? I pray and I pray, but what do I have to show for it.
Here’s the good news! Our phrase in the Lord’s prayer today teaches us that

Our Father wants our prayers to move heaven and earth.

The Big Idea behind our Series on the Lord’s prayer is this:

Sincere use, over time, of Jesus’ model prayer builds intimacy with God.

Intimacy with God is the goal of prayer, God himself is the reward of prayer. I want to invite you to accept a challenge.
Will you accept the challenge to pray the Lord’s prayer everyday through Sunday, May 30th.
There is no magic in praying the words of the prayer; but there is the power of God in us as we pray His very words.
There is power to shape our relationship with him, power to shape our relationship with others.
There is power to cooperate with God in shaping the present and future so that his will is done in heaven and in earth.
This is the practical application of this sermons series. Practical - means something can be practiced - this is a means for you to practice this big idea of this series.
Will you practice prayer this month?
There is an email in your inbox right now that give you an opportunity to respond positively to this challenge

God’s People: Spirit-beings & Human Beings

(acknowledge Dr. Micheal Heiser: Supernatural: What the Bible Teaches about the Unseen World and Why it Matters / The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible. Scholar in Residence for Faithlife Corporation 1994-2019.
We have difficulty with the supernatural in the Bible because we are children of the enlightenment.

Created for fellowship

Spirit-beings
Job 38:4–7 ESV
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
There was a party going on! Sons of God are more than angels - the Hebrew denotes a being with higher-level responsibilities and jurisdictions.
Human-beings - Genesis creation story - God’s interaction with Adam and Eve was one of personal relationship.

Created to rule with God

Spirit-beings
Psalm 82:1, 6
Psalm 82:1 NIV
God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”:
Elohim: deity n. — a supernatural being worshipped as controlling some part of the world or some aspect of life or who is the personification of a force.
Psalm 82:6 NIV
“I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’
1 Kings 22:19-23
1 Kings 22:19–23 NIV
Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne with all the multitudes of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left. And the Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?’ “One suggested this, and another that. Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’ “ ‘By what means?’ the Lord asked. “ ‘I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said. “ ‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord. ‘Go and do it.’ “So now the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The Lord has decreed disaster for you.”
Human-beings
Genesis 1:28 NIV
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
1 Corinthians 6:2–3 NIV
Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

The Sons of God in Heaven failed their heavenly Father

Satan
Ezekiel 28:12–17 NIV
“Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “ ‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald, topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.
Genesis 6 when the sons of God to wives from the daughters of the sons of men
Genesis 6:1–6 NIV
When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.
The apportionment of the nations
Deuteronomy 32:8–9 NIV
When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel. For the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance.
God calls a family council and gives his sons what for.
Psalm 82:1–7 NIV
God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”: “How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. “I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’ But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler.”

Son of God on Earth fail their heavenly Father

In Eden - Adam and Eve sinned by not trusting God’s goodness
Israel - Expelled from the promised land because of their idolatry
Church - The great falling away that will come before the return of Jesus
Matthew 24:10–12 NIV
At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,
2 Thessalonians 2:3 NLT
Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction.

Land: Scared Space

Eden (God meets/dwells with humans)

Israel: Chosen and set apart

Exodus 19:6 NIV
you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”

God lives among his people Israel

Tabernacle/Temple / the camp and promised land were sacred space

Church: Chosen and set apart

1 Peter 2:9 NIV
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

God lives in us

John 14:16–17 NIV
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
1 Corinthians 3:16 NIV
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?
Everywhere we go is sacred ground

Practical Implications - If We Believe

Let Eden Come!

Let the Sacred Ground be restored where God’s spirit-being family and God’s human being family live and work together fully carrying out the will of the Father - where all who are in the Kingdom of are the people of God and we are co-creators with God ruling and reigning in the new heaven and new earth!
Your kingdom come - net yet arrived in its fullness
We have a role in shaping that kingdom in the here and now through our prayers
Through our prayers we become the kind of people who
live in complete dependence on the Father for everything (our daily bread)
Forgive others in the same way that we have been forgive
Who trust God for protecting us from temptation and delivering us from schemes of the evil one.
God shapes us through our prayer and in doing so he uses us to shape the world, because we are living a supernatural life through the resurrection life Jesus in us.
If we believe: Christ in us will change us; Christ in us will change the world; Christ in us will change the future.

God wants you to pray; God wants you to move heaven and earth.
