INTRODUCTION: freeze tag??

Jesus has given you all the grace you need.

Ephesians 4:7–8 ESV
7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”
But - so he is contradicting what he just said. We are all one, but that does not mean we are all the same.
grace -
was given - it is always given, never earned. By definition.
Each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift - ? individual or group???
Ephesians 4:8 ESV
8 Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”
he ascended on high he led a host of captives - Kings in old days would come back from war. He would bring back spoils including captives and even Jewish slaves back to freedom.
Psalm 68:18 ESV
18 You ascended on high, leading a host of captives in your train and receiving gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.
Do you notice a difference? He is now giving gifts, instead of receiving gifts.

Jesus came down to set the captive free.

Ephesians 4:9 ESV
9 (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth?
What goes up must come down.
Where did Jesus go when he died?
Not hell - apostles creed - But into the earth.
DRAW Abraham’s Bosom -
Lazarus parable.

Jesus is still finding us in the muck and leading us home.
