                                          The Spring of the Caller              8/24/08 p.m.

Jdg 15:18-19   18 Then he became very thirsty; so he cried out to the Lord and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant; and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?” 19 So God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out, and he drank; and his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore he called its name 5En Hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day.

Therefore he called its name En Hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day.

The spring apparently continued till the time of St. Jerome, and of other later writers, in the seventh, twelfth, and fourteenth centuries;[1]

En Hakkore - The Spring of the Caller:

the “supplication well;

the well of him that cried,

God opens many springs of comfort to his people, which may fitly be called by the name En-hakkore: The Spring of the Caller

Hagar called it Well of the One Who Lives and Sees Me

 Ge 16:13-14   13 Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are- 5the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?” 14 Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; 7observe, it is between Kadesh and Bered. Well of the One Who Lives and Sees Me

Abraham called it The-Lord-Will-Provide

 Ge 22:14  14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

Jacob called it the House of God

 Ge 28:18-19  18 Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place 4Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz previously. House of God

Jacob called it the Face of God

Ge 32:30  30 So Jacob called the name of the place 1Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.” Face of God

Moses called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner;

 Ex 17:15   15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, 6The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; (Victory Over the Amalekites)

The Spirit and the bride call it the water of life

 Re 22:17  17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Jesus called it the gift of God, living water, a fountain of water

Jn 4:10   10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

 Jn 4:11-14   13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

God the Father calls it the fountain of living waters

Jer 2:13; 13     “For My people have committed two evils:

     They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters,

     And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.

All these different names are Illustrative of

Of godly fear. [2]

 Pr 14:27. 27      The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,

     To turn one away from the snares of death.

Of the law of the wise.

Pr 13:14. 14      The law of the wise is a fountain of life,

     To turn one away from the snares of death.

Of spiritual wisdom.

Pr 16:22; 22     Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it.

Pr 18:4. 4     The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters;

     The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook.

Of the means & constant supplies of grace

Is 58:11  11     The Lord will guide you continually,

     And satisfy your soul in drought,

     And strengthen your bones;

     You shall be like a watered garden,

     And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

Ps 87:7. Both the singers and the players on instruments say, “All my springs are in you.”

Of the Holy Spirit.

Joh 7:38,39. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Of Christ.

Zec 13:1. “In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.

Of God.

Jer 2:13; 13     “For My people have committed two evils:

     They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters,

     And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Of eternal life.

Joh 4:14;   but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

This should encourage us to trust in God, for when he pleases he can “open rivers in high places.”

Is 41:17-18   17     “The poor and needy seek water, but there is none,

     Their tongues fail for thirst.

     I, the Lord, will hear them;

     I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

18     I will open rivers in desolate heights,

     And fountains in the midst of the valleys;

     I will make the wilderness a pool of water,

     And the dry land springs of water.

truly  what a spring is AVAILABLE to the caller
