                                     Acknowledging God      8/24/08 a.m.

 

Pr 3:6      In all your ways acknowledge Him,   ...

ac•knowl•edge \ik-ˈnä-lij, ak-\ vt -edged; -edg•ing [ac- (as in accord) + knowledge] 15c

1           to recognize the rights, authority, or status of

2           to disclose knowledge of or agreement with

3    a      to express gratitude or obligation foracknowledge a gift〉

            b      to take notice of 〈failed to acknowledge my greeting〉

            c      to make known the receipt ofacknowledge a letter〉

4           to recognize as genuine or validacknowledge a debt〉

 

syn acknowledge, admit, own, avow, confess mean to disclose against one’s will or inclination.

acknowledge implies the disclosing of something that has been or might be concealedacknowledged an earlier peccadillo〉.

 

admit implies reluctance to disclose, grant, or concede and refers usu. to facts rather than their implications 〈admitted the project was over budget〉.

 

own   implies acknowledging something in close relation to oneself 〈must own I know little about computers〉.

avow implies boldly declaring, often in the face of hostility, what one might be expected to be silent about 〈avowed that he was a revolutionary〉.

 

confess may apply to an admission of a weakness, failure, omission, or guiltconfessed a weakness for sweets〉.[1]



The Lord told Solomon to know God, serve God, and seek God.

1 Ch 28:9   9 “As for you, my son Solomon,  know the God of your father, and serve Him  with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for  the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts.  If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will  cast you off forever.

To acknowledge Him is to;

1        Know Him

2        Serve Him 

3        Seek Him

Sacrifice of Thanksgiving

Le 22:29   9 And when you  offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, offer it of your own free will.

 Ne 12:31   31 So I brought the leaders of Judah up on the wall, and appointed two large thanksgiving choirs.

Ps 26:7    7     That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving,

     And tell of all Your wondrous works.

      

Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,  Be to our God forever and ever.

Re 7:11-12   11  All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and  worshiped God, 12  saying:      “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,

     Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,

     Be to our God forever and ever.    Amen.”



Praise

 He is your praise

Dt 10:21   21 He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.

Praise Him with the dance, the trumpet, timbrel, loud, clashing cymbals,

harp, instruments of ten strings, a new song & with a shout of joy

 

Ps 149:3-4    3     Let them praise His name with the dance;  Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp. 4     For  the Lord takes pleasure in His people;

Ps 33:1-3    Rejoice  in the Lord, O you righteous!For praise from the upright is beautiful. 2 Praise the Lord with the harp;  Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. 3 Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.

Ps 150:1-6   1     Praise   the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty firmament! 2     Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent  greatness! 3     Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;   Praise Him with the lute and harp! 4     Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! 5     Praise Him with loud cymbals;  Praise Him with clashing cymbals! 6     Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord!

 

The result of praise

Ps 40:3    3     He has put a new song in my mouth—      Praise to our God;

                    Many will see it and fear,   And will trust in the Lord.

2  Serve Him  - Recognition – obedience & application

 

Ro 2:13   3 (for  not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;



Jas 1:22-25    22 But  be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For  if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But  he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work,  this one will be blessed in what he does.

 

Serve Him with all your heart  

1 Sa 12:24-25    24  Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for  consider what  great things He has done for you.

 

Commit your works to the Lord

Pr 16:3  3Commit your works (Roll) to the Lord,  



Trust Him,

Ps 37:5   Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him,

 

Humble yourselves

1 Pe 5:6    6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU THINK,

Pr 4:23   23     Keep your heart with all diligence,

            For out of it spring the issues of  life.

 

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY,

Pr 4:2424     Put away from you a deceitful mouth,

                        And put perverse lips far from you.

 

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SEE,

Pr 4:2525     Let your eyes look straight ahead,

                        And your eyelids look right before you.

 

BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU GO,

Pr 4:2626     Ponder the path of your  feet,

                        And let all your ways be established.

 

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DO

Pr 4:2727     Do not turn to the right or the left;

                        Remove your foot from evil.

3  Seek Him  - for Direction, for His will,



Eph 5:1   Therefore  be imitators of God as dear children.

Php 4:6   6   in everything by prayer and supplication,

Mt 7:7-8   7  “Askseekknock, .

2 Ch 15:1-2    “Hear me,  The Lord is with you while you are with Him.  If you seek Him, He will be found by you;
