1)     How can we determine truth?

James 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

2)     Works Salvation

 

A)       James 2:20-24  But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?

Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?

You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God.

You see that a man is justified by works, and not by faith alone.

B)       1 John 2: 4-5  The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected.

By this we know that we are in Him:

 

3)     Baptismal Regeneration

 

A)       Mark 16:16  "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

B)       Acts 22:16  'And now why do you delay?

Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.'

C)       Acts 2:38  And Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

D)       John 3: 5  Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

 

4)     Many gods

 

A)       John 10: 34  Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your Law, 'I SAID, YOU ARE GODS'?

B)       1 Corinthians 8: 5  For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,

 

5)     Errors in the Bible

 

A)         Acts 9:7  And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

B)         Acts 22:9  And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

C)         Matthew 1:15-16  15  And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

D)         Luke 3:23  And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

E)         Matthew  27:9-10  9  Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, "AND THEY TOOK THE THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER, THE PRICE OF THE ONE WHOSE PRICE HAD BEEN SET by the sons of Israel; 10  AND THEY GAVE THEM FOR THE POTTER'S FIELD, AS THE LORD DIRECTED ME."

 

Zechariah 11: 12-13  12  And I said to them, "If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but if not, never mind!"

So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages.

13  Then the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them."

So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the LORD.

This is a conflation with Jeremiah 18:2, 19:2-11, 32:6-9  (Example Mark 1:2-3)* con·flate *(ken-flât¹) /verb/, /transitive/  *con·flat·ed*, *con·flat·ing*, *con·flates*  *1.*

To bring together; meld or fuse: /“They ingeniously conflated other characters and incidents to provide an opéra-comique setting”/ (Andrew Porter).

Jeremiah 18:2  "Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I shall announce My words to you."

Jeremiah 19:2-11  2  "Then go out to the valley of Ben-hinnom, which is by the entrance of the potsherd gate; and proclaim there the words that I shall tell you, and say, 'Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Behold I am about to bring a calamity upon this place, at which the ears of everyone that hears of it will tingle.

"Because they have forsaken Me and have made this an alien place and have burned sacrifices in it to other gods that neither they nor their forefathers nor the kings of Judah had ever known, and because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing which I never commanded or spoke of, nor did it ever enter My mind; therefore, behold, days are coming, "declares the LORD," when this place will no longer be called Topheth or the valley of Ben-hinnom, but rather the valley of Slaughter.

"And I shall make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and I shall cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life; and I shall give over their carcasses as food for the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth.

"I shall also make this city a desolation and an object of hissing; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its disasters.

"And I shall make them eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will distress them.

"Then you are to break the jar in the sight of the men who accompany you and say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Just so shall I break this people and this city, even as one breaks a potter's vessel, which cannot again be repaired; and they will bury in Topheth because there is no other place for burial.

Jeremiah 32:6-9  6  And Jeremiah said, "The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 'Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle is coming to you, saying, "Buy for yourself my field which is at Anathoth, for you have the right of redemption to buy it.

"Then Hanamel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of the LORD, and said to me, 'Buy my field, please, that is at Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for you have the right of possession and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.'

Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

"And I bought the field which was at Anathoth from Hanamel my uncle's son, and I weighed out the silver for him, seventeen shekels of silver.

Mark 1:2-3  2  As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, "BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER BEFORE YOUR FACE, WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY; THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.'"

(This verse is attributed to Isaiah, though it is a quote out of  Malachi)

 

F)          Matthew 27:45  Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour.

G)         Mark 15:25  And it was the third hour when they crucified Him.

H)         Luke 23:44  And it was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,

I)           John 19:14Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour.

And he said^ to the Jews, "Behold, your King!"  (The time for the death of Jesus was figured in both Greek and Hebrew time frames.)

J)          Matthew 4:18-20  18  And walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

And He said^ to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."

And they immediately left the nets, and followed Him.

John 1:40-42  40  One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

He found^ first his own brother Simon, and said^ to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which translated means Christ).

He brought him to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him, and said, "You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter).

Did Andrew call Peter or did Jesus call them from their nets?

K)         Mark 6:8  8  and He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belt;

 

Luke 9:3  3  And He said to them, "Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece.

Matthew 10:10  10  or a bag for your journey, or even two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is worthy of his support.

7)     Three Heavens

 

A)       2 Corinthians 12: 2  I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago-- whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows-- such a man was caught up to the third heaven.

B)       Deuteronomy 10: 14  "Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it.

C)       2 Chronicles 6: 18  "But will God indeed dwell with mankind on the earth?

Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain Thee; how much less this house which I have built.

D)       1 Kings 8: 27  "But will God indeed dwell on the earth?

Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain Thee, how much less this house which I have built!

E)       1 Corinthians 15: 40-42  There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

So also is the resurrection of the dead.

It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

 

8)     Miscellaneous Passages

 

A)       SPIRIT PRISON:  1 Peter 3: 19  in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,

B)       BAPTISM FOR THE DEAD:  1 Corinthians 15: 29  Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead?

If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?

C)       ADDING TO REVELATION:  Revelation 22: 18  I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book;
