Do You Smell That?

I thank God for senses. Sight, Hearing, Touching, Taste, and Smell. I sympathize with those who have do not have these senses, but I believe that in Glory God will restore these sense to those who don’t have them. But, I thank God for them. I’m especially thankful for smell this morning, I say this as a survivor of Covid-19.
And we understand the significance of smell. One smell of a carnation can put you all the way back to your prom. One smell of gas can put you all the way back to your job or garage. One smell of smiliac can put you back when your children were kids.
Well I want someone to know today that God can smell. Paul gives us this great anthropomorphism that God smells. And if God smells the frightening question should be what do I smell like to God.
God is not concerned about your Mary Kay…Mercy
God is not concerned about your…cool water…led to the water.
White Diamonds…Hugo Boss…Old Spice…Outside…Crown Royal…Zoo...
I’m so glad today that although I have gotten myself into the smelly situations God washed me in the Blood of Jesus and now I smell Good!

1. Sweet Smell of Victory

First of all in this text Paul gives us this triumphant illustration of Jesus leading us in victory. It was a common picture of a conquering King leading his prisoners through the streets of the city to showcase the victory he just won. And while this would happen those with the king would throw flowers and perfumes i the streets as a type of parade. (Commodus Enters Rome on Gladiator). So, here Paul is foremost saying one greater than Caesar is here. The way Caesar conquers our Jesus leads us in a greater victory over sin.

2. Fragrance of Christ

Ephesians 5:1-2 tells us that Christ offered himself up to God as a sacrifice unto God as a fragrant aroma. We then have the smell of Christ to God. The stench of sin is the smell of sin that must smell of death and decay. This smell is displeasing to God. (Preach)
Same fragrance. Those who are saved and those who are perishing
Same gospel. Same word. Same God

3. Aroma of Life or Death

Depending on your experience with a smell will determine what emotion it evokes.
One group smells death. Because they understand that it is their kingdom that has just been destroyed, and it is familiar to losing.
reminds them of their lifestyle. reminds them they need Jesus. reminds the enemy they are defeated and will always be defeated.
One group smells life. because they understand that it is the smell of Jesus’ life, to more life.
It resistant of Jesus words “I have come that you might have life and life more abundant.”
