“God’s gift after the storm”
Genesis 8:1-22
introduction
Illus. of story of frozen embryo saved after Hurricane Katrina.
It’s nice to see Noah recognized as the first to be delivered from a dramatic flood; and as we mentioned last week, Noah’s deliverance was from a flood of global proportions; and as this family received a gracious gift from God after Katrina, Noah and his family received a gracious gift from God as well.
As God delivers us through any storm of life, His grace is always present if we look for it in the right place.
Where did Noah find His grace gift from God?
OPEN to passage.
*Prop.
*In this passage, we learn from Noah how to find God’s grace gifts as we travel through the storms of life.
Open in PRAYER.
PREVIEW the passage.
As the world grew more sinful, God’s patience wore thin and He decided that the end of man had come.
In recent weeks, we have seen Noah’s preparations begin for the building of an ark to deliver him, his wife, his three sons and their wives.
This ark would also be the salvation of every land animal and bird on the earth.
Only marine life was exempt form this world wide destruction by flood.
Last week we saw the windows of Heaven opened and the fountains of the great deep broken up and let loose.
Noah and his 3 sons and their wives were floating high above the earth in the ark.
At the end of chapter seven, we see the waters prevailing on the earth 150 days.
What happens next is God’s gifts become apparent.
The first is…

 i.
provision until our new home is prepared vs. 1-19
Illus. of Extreme Makeover, the show where a family gets a new home.

While they do the work, the family takes a fabulous vacation to Disney World.
Noah doesn’t go to Disney World.
He and his family get an all expenses paid cruise that lasts over a year.
God provides for them while their new home is being prepared.
For Noah, preparation meant…
a. the waters had to subside
V 1a     1.
God remembered Noah and the animals.
Sometimes, in the midst of the storms of life and our whole world is turned upside down, it feels as if God has forgotten us or at least what we are going through.
But, He hasn’t.
He remembered Noah and He remembers us.
V 1b-3 2. God sent wind and he stopped the sources of the great flood.
As the winds came and the rains stopped, the waters began to subside.
Remember that by now they had been on the ark over 5 months.
After the 150 days that the waters prevailed, they were now decreasing.
This must have been a welcome sign to the small family and their zoological entourage.
V 4      3.

This is taken from Assyrian records.
However, the precise location is really unknown.
