Paul tells us to live humble lives accountable to God.

The Lord is the Judge

We must leave it to the Lord to judge.
I went to Boston on a vacation when I was ten or so. It was on that vacation that I last peed in my pants…
That’s not the point. I got a caricature drawing done while I was there, and as it was being done this girl walked up to look at the drawing and did this…
Did her opinion really or effectively make any difference? Well that’s like when other people pass their own judgement. It ultimately doesn’t matter. Even if it’s right, only God’s judgement matters.
What is judging?
Finding someone guilty or not guilty.
Determining right and wrong.
There were Corinthians judging Paul about some aspect of his preaching it seems. But the principle applies to not only preachers and teachers, but everyone.
We don’t have to worry about others judging us, only God.
Why is it good to not give much importance to those who would judge you?
Does this mean you don’t ever have to listen to people who tell you you’re wrong?
It is wrong for us to step into God’s role as judge.
So do we never tell someone they are wrong?
Matthew 7:1–5 CSB
“Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged. For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use. Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a beam of wood in your own eye? Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye.
You only need to be thinking about standing before God, no one else.

Stay Humble

We have to acknowledge God in all things.
These Corinthians were having a real my-dad-can-beat-up-your-dad kind of argument here…
We have to remember, especially in our spiritual lives, that all we have is a gift from God. So we can look at where we are spiritually or what our church or pastor is doing and pretend that we did it.
That means we can’t think we are better than someone else doing things differently…
God’s Word is sufficient.
2 Timothy 3:17 CSB
so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Don’t let yourself act like a bigger deal than you are.
What can happen to our relationship with God when become proud?
You’ve got to be humble and show gratitude to God for all he’s given you.

Find a spiritual father

Imitate people who are living for Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:1 CSB
Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.
We need people who are imitating Christ and who we can trust who care enough to lead us toward Jesus.
Who will teach us and hold us accountable.
We can’t do this unless we are humble!
When we are humble, we won’t be trying to sit in God’s place to judge!
God has called us to live humbly, only having great concern for when we appear before him for judgement. On our own, none of us would fair well before the judgement seat, but thank God that He sent his Son Jesus for us…
