Pre-Sermon Ice Breaker

Many of you know, that I am a preacher, some of you know that I am a chaplain. A few of you know that I was a clown. Last week I was on vacation and bought a power drill for the first time and my wife learned that I was a handyman. But people are usually shocked when they find out I’m not a very good electrician.
Philippians 4:13 KJV 1900
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Introduction

Strengtheneth
A King James word if I ever heard one.
It appears 7 times in the Bible - Job 15:25, Psalm 104:15, Proverbs 31:17, Ecclesiastes 7:19, Isaiah 44:14, Amos 5:9
The last and final time is the only time it appears in the New Testament. Our Text today Philippians 4:13
Strengtheneth - is an Archaic third-person, singular simple present indicative form of the word Strengthen.
It comes from the Greek word en-doo-nam-o-o. It means to be strong, endue with strength, strengthen.
Today we will explore this word and what it means to you and I in the context of our faith.

Hebrews 13:8
Today Philippians 4:13
Philippians shows us what true Christian experience is, the outward expression of Christ-life within the believer in power of the Holy Spirit.
Apprehending our position in Christ and manifesting Christ in our daily walk. Let’s look at 3 Truths that will help us appropriate this strength in our life.

The Ability of Strength - I can

1 Timothy 1:12 KJV 1900
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
2 Corinthians 9:8 KJV 1900
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
I sometimes marvel at the things that I have had the opportunity to do as a Christian minister. Chaplain’s assistant, Youth leader, Youth Pastor, Song leader, Librarian, soul winner, deaf Sunday School teacher, Sign-language teacher, Pastor, Actor, Clown, Praise and Worship leader, Clown Minister, Teacher of Teachers. But not in my strength, but his.

The Area of Strength - All Things

Whatever Christ has for you to do, He will supply the power. Whatever gift He gives you, He will give the power to exercise that gift. - Warren Wiersbe
Luke 1:37 KJV 1900
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
The Red Sea - Exodus
The Sun Stood Still - Joshua
Lazarus Raised from the Dead - John
Matthew 19:23–26 KJV 1900
23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

The Author of Strength - Christ

Paul was never the victim of circumstances; he had learned by experience the secret of peace: “I can do all things through Christ who energizes me!” - Warren Wiersbe
John 15:5 KJV 1900
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV 1900
9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
We tend to think of Philippians 4:13 as I can climb any mountain, I can cross any river, I can defeat any foe. But in reality winning is easy. If often takes lots of work to get there, but winning is easy. It takes real strength to lose, real strength to fail, real strength to falter. This is the power of Philippians 4:13, is that it is not you that has to be strong, but it is in your weakness that Christ does what you cannot do and thereby you are able to do all things through him.

Conclusion

Strengtheneth - is an Archaic third-person, singular simple present indicative form of the word Strengthen.
It comes from the Greek word en-doo-nam-o-o. It means to be strong, endue with strength, strengthen.
It comes from the same root word that is translated power in Matthew 2818, Acts 1:8, and in John 1:12
This is Holy Ghost power. It is power that saves and equips.
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
The most amazing thing is not that we can stop the Red Sea, or make the Son stand still, or raise the dead. It is not that demons are under our authority, It is that we can be saved.
Today if you don’t know Christ as your savior or heaven as your home, place your faith in him today.
If you know Christ. Stop trying to control every aspect of life, stop trying to go it alone. Like Paul learn to be content in whatever state you are in and let Christ Strengtheth you.
