2 Peter 1:10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure.

I remind you of a verse I quoted some time back from Proverb 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Ezra made a statement to the king that God would protect his own, and those who forsake his receive his anger.  He was about to take a journey that anyone would have chosen to receive protection on the road against thieves.  But he was at the edge of a faith cliff, with the king watching his next move.  He chose to trust God, prayed and arrived safely in Jerusalem.

Isaiah 59 talks about being separated from God, confessing sins and God’s redeeming quality.  When you stand in the midst of God’s plan for you, then you can confess what verse 19 says: When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.
